Sun Wheel – The Blue Candle of Peace

Astrea 19 / Dec. 16

Foradi or Fora Day. (Saturday).

Day of Madria Rhea.

Dear Friends and devotees of Dea,

Here, so that we may all be prepared to participate in our custom, is the prayerful act of lighting the (Yellow
Candle of Hope, Green Candle of Wisdom, Violet / Purple Candle of Faith), Blue Candle of Peace. The candle
is lit (electric tea light or table lamp switched on) before dinner or early evening, followed by a brief scripture
reading and prayers on Sunnadi or Sun Day 20th Astrea / 17th December.

Madrina Sophia

Sun Wheel – The Blue Candle of Peace

Today, we light the Blue Candle of Peace in honour of the Holy Daughter as Déa, Dove of Peace. The Blue Candle also signifies the Sacred Season of Spring, the direction of East, the time of Dawn, the Symbol of the Dove and Madria Grace. The Mystery is Aurora (the Holy Daughter rises to becomes the World Soul. She Who is the Dawn of All Life).

While some Traditions honor the Celestial Mother as the Great Dove of the Waters, in the Janite Tradition, this title is applied to the Holy Daughter as She is closely associated with East and Water, a feminine Element.

The Holy Daughter, Water, East, Dove, Madria Grace, Dawn and Spring, all are both mystically and symbolically intertwined to weave the whole Mystery that is the Resurrection of All Life. For not only does She share Her Soul with us, but She gathers the Divine Sparks within us and carries them back to Her Mother, where we may drink from the Waters of the Eternal Spring. [1]

The Spring Mystery of Aurora is Our Lady, Dove of Peace. The Holy Daughter as the Resurrection of our souls and the renewal of all life. She is the Great Dove of the Waters and Soteria of the World. She is the Dove of Peace.

The Dove is known to be a symbol of Motherhood because the Dove is able to produce its own milk. The Dove represents self-sacrifice because it ceases to forage for food shortly before its young are born to ensure purer
milk. [2] Motherhood necessitates a certain amount of sacrifice in order to ensure the well-being of the off-spring.

Digital fractal image of white dove flying over water by John Edwards

It is known as a Celestial Messenger, linking Heaven and Earth and is symbolic of the release of the soul Heaven-ward. Purity, Love, Grace, gentleness and hope are all signified by the Pure White Dove. The Holy Mother of our souls, Jana, by Her entering material manifestation and through Divine Communion, links Heaven
and Earth.

In antiquity, the Dove would have been readily recognized as the Symbol of the Goddess, especially as Ishtar and Aphrodite/Venus.

In ancient Rome, Aphrodite’s catacombs were called “columbaria” (dovecotes), which, according to Barbara G. Walker, gave rise to the belief that the soul returns to the Goddess after death as a dove.

In Christian iconography, the dove is sometimes shown with seven rays emanating from it, which further connects it to the Goddess and specifically to the Pleiades, the Seven Sisters, whose name in Greek meant “a flock of doves.” [3]

During the time of Christ, the Dove would have been readily recognized by the people of the time as the Epiphany or Presence of the Goddess; one of the reasons why many Christians are re-examining the Holy Spirit as being Female rather than male. [4]

Sophia is often said to appeared in the form of a White Dove. [5] There are many Christians who believe that Sophia and the Holy Spirit are One.

The Dove is the primary Symbol of the Holy Daughter, Who, in Janite Tradition, is image-based upon the Divine Sophia. The Holy Daughter, She Who is the Daughter of Light, She Who is the Daughter of Wisdom, [6] is the Three-fold Dove: the Great Dove of the Waters, the Dove of the Sacrifice and the Dove of Peace. (The Dove of Sacrifice is from our liturgy.) [1]

Prayerful Act:

On our Sunwheel, we light the Blue Candle of Peace in honour of the Holy Daughter, Kore, as Déa, Dove of Peace. (Pronounced Korah or Koree, which means Maiden.) The Mystery which it represents is Aurora (the Holy Daughter rises to becomes the World Soul. She Who is the Dawn of All Life). Therefore we also honour the Great Symbol of the dove.

On Sunnadi or Sun Day / 20th Astrea / 17th December.

The Blue candle also signifies the Season of Spring, the direction of East, the time of Dawn, Jana Madria Candra, Grace.

Madria Grace is the Guardian of East and Water. She is also the Mistress of healing, which we associate with water (sacred wells, etc.). Holy Water, water that has been especially blessed, also conveys, transmits and permeates through-out all that it touches, the Divine Energies of Grace. Water is the most appropriate Element for East and Spring because it renews and replenishes all life, just as Spring brings forth a great renewal and replenishing of manifest Creation.

Water, when blessed, becomes a carrier of the information, intent and energies of grace. It becomes holy water which cleanses our souls and renews our spirits. Not only does it purify us from within, but it also washes impurities from our bodies. And so, Water cleans and rejuvenates us on both the inside and the out.

This integral interconnection of Water with the Sacred Season of Spring is reflected in the dewdrop on a newly budded flower. It’s luminosity shines within the grace-filled waters of Lustration, Baptism and Mikvah. It refracts the Seven Janae into rainbow-hued facets of the One Diamond of Dea.

It is through Water that Life is born. It is through Water that Life is renewed. It is through Water that life is resurrected.

Water is associated with priestesshood. Where the Element of Water embodies intuition, spiritual cleansing, spiritual purity, primordial emotion, grace, psychic sensitivity and the attuning of the subconsciousness, all of which are embedded in the priestesshood, it may be considered the Second Primary Element of the
Priestesshood after Spirit. [1]

Scripture: [7]
The scripture reading for the lighting of the Blue Candle of Peace is:

Title 1, Chapter 4, The Holy Mythos, verses 4-19
(Chapters 4-7 known as The Daughter born to accepting the fate )
Also known as Chapter 1, The Mythos of the Divine Maid

4. Those that were princesses among them brought their crowns to the sacred grove as gifts, and shepherdesses brought the new-dropped lambs, and all the daughters of the earth brought forth the fruits thereof to lay before the cave. 5. But before the cave stood a Jana (an archangel) of Déa, robed in a garment so white that the eyes of earth’s children were dazzled, and with a countenance of such great beauty that it was a fearful thing to look upon her. 6. And the daughters of the earth covered their eyes and threw themselves to the ground.
7. And the voice of the Jana (archangel) was like to the rushing of a thousand waters. 8. And she spoke, saying: “Be not afraid, for a new light is dawning over the world. Be not afraid, but approach no further, for if you cannot look on me, how should you look upon my Lady, whose handmaiden I am?”

9. And her voice grew gentle, like the wind among the icicles, and sweet beyond all telling. 10. Then she spoke, saying: “This night shall a child be born that shall be the daughter of light and the princess of all the world. 11. A child is coming that she shall carry the light of Thea into every part of creation, even to the most desolate of the places of darkness. 12. Rejoice, poor wanderers of the earth and exiles from the house of your Mother, for to you shall come a guide and a deliverer.”

13. When the voice of the Jana (archangel) ceased, a silence fell that was the first true silence since the beginning of the world, and the last that shall be until its end, 14. and the children of earth watched the sky as the first rays of dawn crept across the heavens. 15. Then a cry issued out of the cave, saying: “The holy child is born from the most holy Mother; light has come forth from light, perfection from perfection.” 16. At once the air was filled with the daughters of heaven, and the sky was ablaze with the radiance of their joy, 17. and they sang aloud to the
glory of Déa. 18. When the shining ones ceased from their song, the world became quiet again, and the star grew brighter and ever brighter, until it shone brighter than the radiance of all the host of heaven; and yet its light was so gentle that the eyes of earth’s children were not dazzled, 19. and the colour of the light was not one of the seven, but a wondrous luminescence not known within the boundaries of the world.

8. Brigidine Prayer for Peace [13]
Brighid – a Living Stream of Déa

St Brigid’s Well Kildare Ireland

Brigid rules the elements of Water (Uisge in Gaelic, Dwr in Welsh) and Fire (Teine in Gaelic; Tân in Welsh).

As Water deity, Brigid is the patroness of healers, with many healing springs and wells dedicated to Her throughout the British Isles. Water is also associated with psychic ability, music, and poetry.

Natural bodies of water were also sacred to her, particularly where three streams joined together.

Brigid,

You were a woman of peace,
You brought harmony where there was conflict.
You brought light to the darkness.
You brought hope to the downcast.

May the mantle of your peace
Cover those who are troubled and anxious,
And may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts
And in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence
All Déa has made.

Brigid, you were a voice for the wounded
And the weary,
Strengthen what is weak within us,
Calm us into a quietness that heals
And listens.
May we grow each day into greater
Wholeness in mind, body and spirit.

Amen (So be it).

Bathe my heart with Your love O Déa

13. Poem – My Beautiful White Dove by Eve 831 [16]

My favorite and most beautiful bird is the beautiful white Dove
Representing Heaven and Déa’s love from above
The white dove represents peace and unity
When I see it flying I feel happy and free
When the dove returned with an olive branch
…proving that land had been found
Such a beautiful, intelligent bird that descends from Heaven
…watching over humans treading the ground
Doves are full of love, peace, grace and sacrifice
They represent kindness, happiness and being nice
A Dove have the eyes to see the best in people
…and a heart that forgives
It has the mind to forgive the worst, forget the bad,
…and a little bird soul that prays for you to live
That beautiful white Dove will NEVER lose faith in Déa above
Thank you beautiful white Dove for descending from Heaven
…and spreading your love
The deepest kind of peace and faith is represented by the Dove
It will quiet our trouble thoughts, renew our mind and spirit
OUR HEAVENLY WHITE DOVE

Meditate:

Dove of Peace Meditation [17]

Sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed.
Bring your awareness to your body and the breath. Breathe in and out deeply from the belly 5-6 times.
If any thoughts come up, don’t resist them, simply allow them to pass without engaging in them. Imagine your thoughts as leaves floating down a stream, they are there, but you are just looking at them, observing them as they go by.
Imagine you are standing in the centre of a beautiful, green valley, it is so green it’s like velvet. The air around you is still and warm, and you can smell the sweet green of the earth rising up in the warm air. It is calming.

Behind you is a small, white bench. You sit down there. It’s amazing how clear and crisp every colour is, how every leaf and every flower seems almost electrified with life. All your senses seem stronger here.

As you are relaxing there, you see something in the heavenly blue sky, in front of you. It’s a white dove and She is gently flying toward you.

As She gets close to you, you instinctively reach out your hands for Her. She lands in your hands and looks up at you. Looking into Her eyes, you become aware of Her tranquil Light of the Divine, that Holy Daughter has come to bring you peace. She knows your cares and concerns. She is always listening to you… to your heart. You can feel a healing sensation penetrating you from all around.

It’s as though Holy Daughter in the Divine form of a dove, and even the very air here knows who you are, and is emanating compassion for you. Peace fills your body and mind. Let it in. It’s a gift of grace from your Soteria.
When you are ready, raise your hands to signal that you are ready to release your vision of Holy Daughter as dove and slowly return to the present. Slowly open your eyes, stretch and go on with the rest of your day…
peaceful, and refreshed by Her Holy Grace.

Finish with:

The Eternal Trinity Prayer:

Eternal is the Light of the Mother.
Eternal is the Love of the Daughter.
Eternal is the Life of the Great Mother.
Glorious is the Eternity of Déa.
