Insights on the Silver Star of the Waters and the Divine Names (Bits and Pieces)

Recently, Race MoChridhe and I have been discussing the Silver Star of the Waters prayer. It has always been assumed that this most basic of prayers (for the Madrians and Janites), had been written in honor of the Celestial Mother. But, it didn’t seem to make sense that it referred to Her as the Silver Star because Silver is the color of the Gentle Light of the Holy Daughter.

However, as Mr. MoChridhe noted and, quite synchronistically, I, myself recently noticed, the Celestial Mother is referred to as the Silver Star in our scriptures.

In the Mythos of the Divine Maid (God the Daughter) chapter 6 vs 8 we read:

(8) And in the darkness after the second day, a silver star appeared in the Heavens, Whose brightness was too great for them to look upon. (SMR)

It is clear, in the Mythos, that this is referring to the Divine Mother. It is She, Whose ‘Brightness is too great to look upon’ and in the next verse, we see the children of the Earth rejoicing because they recognize that it is the Mistress of All Things or the Mother of All things coming to rescue Her Holy Daughter.

(9) And the children of the Earth rejoiced, saying, it is the Mistress of All Things come to seek Her Daughter. (SMR)

Race MoChridhe has given me permission to share his insights:

I wanted to share an insight I had only recently, as I have been working on the fourth edition critical text for the Teachings, about the Silver Star. I realized that the opening of the prayer is constructed as an appeal to the three persons of the Trinity as a single addressee. As you mention, “Silver Star of the waters” obviously refers most directly to the Daughter through its invocation of the color silver and its oblique reference to the star of the Nativity, but it can also have reference to the Mother in light of Mythos 6:8, which identifies the star that represents Her in Her descent to the underworld as “silver”. The following phrase, “That have laughed all the world into being” naturally pertains most specifically to the Mother through the Creation story. The third line, “beyond all knowing is the splendour of Your Light,” then seems to address the Dark Mother by reference to the fourteenth verse of the Sermon of the Apple-Seed, which declares that “there can be no knowledge of the Absolute; for to know is to have passed beyond knowing” (some versions, including the third edition ECE, read “beyond knowledge”, but I now favour the “beyond knowing” reading as more likely to have been original). Thus (if my reading is correct), Mother, Daughter, and Dark Mother all receive a particular acknowledgement in the prayer’s opening without compromising the sense of unity in addressing the one Dea. Race MoChridhe

Of course, Mr. MoChridhe made it clear to me that this was a personal insight on his part and does not necessarily reflect the intention of the original composer of the prayer.

For Janites, as it was for the Madrians, the Silver Star prayer is the basic prayer of our Rite. The Madrians  put it in the place of the Hail, Mary on their rosary. For Janites, the Silver Star prayer is the equivalent of the Our Father in Christianity and so that is its place on the Janite Mysteries Rosary. https://deanic.com/prayers-and-rites/the-janite-mysteries-rosary/

As we are very Trinitarian in our devotions and in our Wheel of the Year, (the Fifth Season of Moura being the time of the Great or Dark Mother in the Janite Rite), this interpretation of the Silver Star prayer, where the entire Trinity is being addressed in the very first sentence, is perfect for us.

Another area of recent research has been the Filianic names of the Janati. While there appears to be some controversy as to the origins of these names, ArchMatrona Georgia has researched the Sanskrit definitions of the names of the Janati in Filianism in comparison with the Greek Titan names. While the Madrians, for the most part, used only the Titanide names, I feel that it was wise for the Filanists to assign different names for the Janae because it helps to make clear that the Janae are not the actual Titan goddesses.

Until the research of ArchMatrona Ghrian, many of us were not familiar the meanings of the Filianic names for the Janae. However, thanks to her research, we now have this information available and are able to see how entirely appropriate the Filianic names are for each of the Janae.

If the Janite Ekklesia elects to become a Rite of Filianism, a decision that has yet to be made, the Names of the Trinity and Janae would be as follows (see below).

These Names, in part,  include the new-found information on the meanings of the Filianic names for the Janae. In the cases where the Janite and Filianic Names are combined, they would reflect our becoming a Janite Rite of Filianism. As such, the Names become a radiant blend of spiritual meaning.

The Meanings of the Names of the Trinity in the (potential) Janite Rite of Filianism:

The Celestial Mother is Mari Sophia  a name which (according to the oldest translation of Mari) means Mother Sea of Wisdom.

The Holy Daughter is Zoe Anna which means Life Grace or the Grace of Life.

The Great Mother is Mysteria Sige which means Mystery Silence or the Silence of Mystery.

The Janae in the Janite Rite

Raya Theia which means Heavenly Goddess. (Raya has other meanings, as well, including queen and  flow of a river. Any names which mean flowing river or stream are entirely appropriate for the Janae.) Filianic-Madrian.

The proper pronunciation for Raya is Rye-a which differentiates it from Rhea (Ray-a or Rhee-a).

Candre which means of the Moon. Filianic

Vikhe which means Victory.  Filianic

Mati Sage which means Spiritual Thought of Wisdom. Filianic-Janite

Thema which means Queen. Janite

Sushuri Grace which means Kind Grace. Filianic-Janite

Rhea which means Flowing Stream (or River). Madrian

Of course, as always, Janite devotees may use whichever Divine Names resonate with them whether the Madrian, Filianic, Janite or Janite-Filianic which is a reflection of all three spiritual Traditions.
