Dear Devotees,

We wish all of you a very Blessed Feast of Adoria!

Last night, we observed Mother’s Night by lighting the final candle on our Sunwheel, the red Candle of Joy, in honor of Our Celestial Mother, Mari Sophia, Who is the Rose of Joy.  We awaited with Our Divine Mother, the birth/Emanation of Her Holy Daughter, Janah Sophia, Who is the Midnight Star of Wonder.

Today, on Daughter’s Day, known as Adoria to the Janites, we celebrate the Holy Daughter through the full lighting of the Sunwheel. We offer praise, glory and gratitude and we may  worship Her through the Rite of Veneration. (The Solitary Rite may be found here.)

Our clergy shall be offering the Great Liturgy for all of our devotees, our Ekklesia and Clan Jana.

31. When the archangel ceased to speak, a new voice filled the air, more beautiful and
more formidable than hers. The voice said:
“Her name shall be called Kore, *
for She shall be the Lady of heaven.”
32. Then the star vanished from the sky and yet its light remained; then the shape of the light
became a vision: 33. it was a vision of the Mistress of All Things, bearing in Her arms the holy
child. 34. For all the wondrous things the children of earth had seen that night, not the whole
of them was one thousandth part as wondrous as this vision.
35. Then for twelve nights the star returned to the sky; and on the thirteenth night it did
not return. And this was a sign of things that were to come.

*Here, Kore means Daughter. Taken from the Mythos of the Divine Maid/Holy Daughter.

Praise be to Dea Madria, Our Divine Mother!

Praise be to Dea Filia, the Holy Daughter!

Praise and Blessings and Glory Be!

Blessed is She.

Mother’s Night/Daughter’s Day:

In the Janite Deanic Calendar, 23 Astrea/Dec. 20 is Mother’s Night. We will light the fifth and final candle on our SunWheel, the Red Candle of Joy in honor of Our Celestial Mother.

On 24 Astrea/Dec. 21, on Yule, we celebrate Adoria, which means Glory. This is also known as Daughter’s Day.  In Traditional Northern European cultures, Mother’s Night and Daughter’s Day were celebrated in honor of the sun goddess, Sol and her daughter, Sunna (although others state that Sunna was the mother and her daughter was Sol.) Mother’s Night was adapted by Christians for the Blessed Virgin Mary on Christmas Eve.

Traditionally, Mother’s Night/Yule Eve began after the first three stars appeared in the sky.

As  Janite Deanists, we celebrate Mother’s Night and Daughter’s Day in honor of Mother and Daughter Sophia Whose Janite Deanic Names are Mari and Janah (Yah-nah), respectively. (In other Traditions, the Deanic Name of the Holy Daughter is Anna.) The Feast of Adoria is the Janite equivalent of the Deanic Feast of Nativity.

n

The Blue Candle of Grace.

Tomorrow, after before the Eventide meal, we will light the blue candle in honor of the Holy Daughter as the Pure Dove of Grace.

The dove has long been understood to represent the Divine Feminine going back thousands of years. The Divine Feminine Dove symbol has long-predated the biblical use of the dove to represent the Holy Spirit.

When the Dove Form of the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus during his baptism, the Dove would have readily been recognized, by those of the time of Jesus, to be Feminine. This Tradition of recognizing the Holy Spirit as Feminine continued in early Syriac Christianity.

Over the years, we have discovered that the Mythos of Holy Sophia (minus Her purposeful demotions,) most closely mirrors the Deanic Mythos of the Divine Daughter.

Daughter Sophia, Whose Janite name is Janah (Yah-nah), (in Filianism, Anna), separates or emanates from Her Celestial Mother. Where Dea is of the Godhood and shares the Eternal Nature of God, this is considered to be an ‘Eternal Act’, one taken outside of time. Outside of time, the past, present and future exist all at once.

At the moment of Separation/Emanation, She Eternally becomes a Person in Her Own Right and yet, She remains One with Her Mother in Essence. Another way to think of this separation is the Mother is the ‘Higher Self’ of the Daughter.

Holy Sophia is then said to have ‘taken on Form’, that of Soul. In this way, She is the Holy Daughter incarnate.

Lucky Star True North

During Adoria, we celebrate the Emanation of the Holy Daughter from Her Divine Mother, symbolized by the Midnight Star of Wonder.

As we approach the Feast of Adoria, we light the blue candle, which celebrates the Holy Daughter as the Pure Dove of Grace. She, Who is Our High Priestess and the Fountain of All Grace.

Tomorrow, before the Eventide meal, for our Sunwheels, we first light the green Candle of Faith, followed by the  yellow Candle of Hope. We then light the violet Candle of Faith and finally, the Blue Candle of Grace.

Scriptures:

The following scripture verses are amongst the most beloved of Deanists. (Please note that verse numbers may not be the same):

Chapter 5

20. The archangel at the cave’s mouth called forth the children of the earth that they
might present their gifts. And the three great princesses of the earth came forward: 21. First the
greatest of them, who ruled more land than either of the others and also possessed more
treasure. 22. Her crown was of pure gold; and as she took it from her head, the light of the star
fell upon it, and it shone with a glister lovelier than any earthly jewel. 23. And she laid it at the
feet of the archangel. 24. The archangel said: “It is good that you bring your crown, for you
are a great princess, but the holy child shall be princess of all the world.”
25. The second princess held neither so much land nor treasure, but she was a maid of
deep wisdom and profound meditation. Her crown was of pure silver; and as she took it from
her head, the light of the star fell upon it, and it shone with a radiance yet lovelier than that of
the golden crown. 26. And she laid it at the feet of the archangel. 27. The archangel said: “It is
good that you bring your crown, for you have great wisdom, but the holy child is the daughter
of wisdom herself.”
28. The last princess possessed only but few of the worldly things, but she was a
priestess of Thea, and she praised Her in the morning and at evening and at all the seven hours
of the day. Her crown was made from glittering crystal; and as she took it from her head the
light of the star fell upon it, and she was bathed in rays of a thousand different colours, and the
children of the earth drew in their breath at the sight of its beauty. 29 And she laid it at the feet
of the archangel. 30. The archangel said: “It is good that you bring your crown, for you are a
true and loving priestess and a servant of your people, but the holy child shall be priestess of all
the world, and shall serve Her children even to the last and greatest service.”
31. When the archangel ceased to speak, a new voice filled the air, more beautiful and
more formidable than hers. The voice said:
“Her name shall be called Kore,
for She shall be the Lady of heaven.”
The Mythos of the Holy Daughter. The New Celestial Union Edition

in every act that we make.
Teach me/us obedience and humility
and joy of heart that comes of self-forgetting.
Help us to be clear mirrors of Thy Love;
reflecting all the beauty of the world;
for beauty is the echo of Eternity.
Fix our hearts on the Eternal

by transient things.
Rescue us from the hands of darkness
that we may serve Thee with all our being here
and in Thy bright Eternity.
Blessed are You.

The Violet Candle of Faith

10 Astrea/Dec. 7, Foradi/Sat.

Day of Sai Rhea, Shield of Steadfastness, Temperance and Self-Restraint.

Announcements:

Please see the previous article for the Weekly prayer list. Thank you.

A member of our sisterhood, ArchSorella Minna, will be ordained as a Janite deaconess on 15 Astrea/Dec. 12. Please keep her in your prayers as she prepares for her priestess path. Thank you.

As the number of our new devotees continues to grow, we will begin preparing a series of introductory lessons/classes for those who are interested in joining Clan Jana. (1) In the meantime, we offer the following suggestions on our Becoming a Devotee page. Please note that our contacts page has been updated.

THE VIOLET CANDLE OF FAITH.

Tomorrow, on Sunnadi, we will light the Violet Candle of Faith in honor of the Great Mother, She Who is Absolute Deity and the Source of All Life. She is Primordial Being, the Primal Consciousness in Whom all dwells.

For Janites (pronouonced Yan-ites), She is not a Kali-like figure, but rather, She is a like a Grandmother in our relationship to Her, although one Whose Face is Veiled. While She is Beyond All Knowing, She knows us, intimately. She hears our prayers and sings with us our chants. She reaches down to us through the Celestial Mother and the Holy Daughter.

In Deanism, She is known as the Dark beyond the light and the Light beyond the darkness. Dark because She is beyond knowing. She is that Still Centre of All Being. She is the Still Centre because She is the Singularity of the All. She is known as the Fora of Faith. (The Fora, which is a suncross with the four rays extending beyond the circle is the main symbol of Deanism.)

Tomorrow, before the Eventide meal, on our Sunwheels, we first light the Green Candle of Wisdom followed by the Yellow Candle of Hope. We then light the Violet Candle of Faith in the Centre of the Sunwheel, representing the Still Centre of All Being. This Still Centre is symbolized by the circle on a Fora/Suncross.

After lighting the Violet Candle of Faith, the following scripture reading is suggested:

(Please note that both Theia, as found in the following text, is Greek for goddess just as Dea is Latin for goddess. In Deanism, both mean Goddess as in the God sense, just as Kyria means Lady in the Lord sense.)

Scriptures:

This scripture was inspired, in part, by the Christian infancy narrative. From both Deanic and Sophian Mythos, we know that the Holy Daughter separated/emanated Herself from Her Mother and took on or incarnated into Soul-Form and in that way, though Eternal, She may be said to have been ‘born’.

Just as there is Higher/Mother Sophia/Shekinah and Lower Daughter Sophia/Shekinah Who incarnated as Soul, we have our eternal higher self  and our incarnational lower self. But after all, it is said that the story of Sophia taking on the Form of Soul is the story of our own souls as well.  (More on this topic to come).

The following scriptures may be thought of as the Divine Feminine form of the Eternal Story. And here, Archangel means Jana, a member of the Janati.

Chapter 5:

4. Those that were princesses among them brought their crowns to the sacred grove as
gifts, and shepherdesses brought the new-dropped lambs, and all the daughters of the earth
brought forth the fruits thereof to lay before the cave. 5. But before the cave stood an archangel
of Thea, robed in a garment so white that the eyes of earth’s children were dazzled, and with a
countenance of such great beauty that it was a fearful thing to look upon her. 6. And the
daughters of the earth covered their eyes and threw themselves to the ground. 7. And the voice
of the archangel was like to the rushing of a thousand waters. 8. And she spoke, saying: “Be not
afraid, for a new light is dawning over the world. Be not afraid, but approach no further, for if
you cannot look on me, how should you look upon my Lady, whose handmaiden I am?”
9. And her voice grew gentle, like the wind among the icicles, and sweet beyond all
telling. 10. Then she spoke, saying: “This night shall a child be born that shall be the daughter
of light and the princess of all the world. 11. A child is coming that she shall carry the light of
Thea into every part of creation, even to the most desolate of the places of darkness. 12.
Rejoice, poor wanderers of the earth and exiles from the house of your Mother, for to you shall
come a guide and a deliverer.”
13. When the voice of the archangel ceased, a silence fell that was the first true silence
since the beginning of the world, and the last that shall be until its end, 14. and the children of
earth watched the sky as the first rays of dawn crept across the heavens. 15. Then a cry issued
out of the cave, saying: “The holy child is born from the most holy Mother; light has come
forth from light, perfection from perfection.” 16. At once the air was filled with the daughters
of heaven, and the sky was ablaze with the radiance of their joy, 17. and they sang aloud to the
glory of Thea. 18. When the shining ones ceased from their song, the world became quiet
again, and the star grew brighter and ever brighter, until it shone brighter than the radiance of
all the host of heaven; and yet its light was so gentle that the eyes of earth’s children were not
dazzled, 19. and the colour of the light was not one of the seven, but a wondrous luminance
not known within the boundaries of the world. The Mythos of the Holy Daughter. The New Celestial Union Edition

Suggested Prayer: in honor of the Great Mother. (Taken from our Eventide Rite.)

Shimmering Darkness composed by ArchMadria Pamela Lanides.

O, Shimmering Darkness beyond the light,

O, Sublime Light beyond the dark,

You, Who are unknowable, but knows all,

You, Who are unmanifest, but manifests all,

Veiled Stillness,

Centre of All Life, All Mind, All Soul,

We bow before you in reverent awe.

Blessed are You.

Suggested Ritual:

Research videos of Sacred Dance or create one of your own to beautiful music. Dance, hymns and chanting are very powerful forms of prayer.

Closing Prayer:

Hail, Mysteria, Fountainhead of Grace, Glory be to Thee. Blessed art Thou, O, Empress of Heaven and Blessed art Thou, O, Divine Fora of Faith. Ameena. (2)

Let us Bless the Queen of Heaven,

Blessed is She.

Let us thank the Seven Janati of Dea,

Thanks be to the Seven Janati.

Continue to light the green, yellow and violet candles each night. Traditionally, the scripture is read before each meal. Extinguish the candles after the Eventide meal.

May Our Lady bless you,

Blessed is She.

  1. Clan Jana consists of those hestias which are members of the Janite Deanic Ekklesia. An hestia is the blessed and consecrated hearths and homes of Janite devotees.
  2. (Based on the Traditional Hail, Mary. Traditionally, many Russians understood Mary to be Sophia incarnate and so we have no qualms adapting this time honored prayer for the Triune Sophia. As Holy Sophia once said to a seer, “those who have prayed to Mary have been praying to me.”)

Madria Theia

Sunnadi, Day of Lady Theia, Lamp of Illumination, Joy and Benevolence.

Today, after lighting the Green Candle of Wisdom,  we then light the Yellow Candle of Hope in honor of the Holy Daughter as the Star of Hope. In Janite/Lucienne Tradition, She is known as the Triple Star, the Star of Hope, the Midnight Star of Wonder and the Guiding North Star.

During the Astrean time of year, we contemplate the Holy Daughter, Who is not yet Separate from Her Mother, as Our Star of Hope.  We then look upon the vast darkness of the Cosmos, sprinkled with points of light, to She Who is the Guiding North Star above us, as we await Her birth as the Midnight Star of Wonder.

Most fittingly, after lighting the Candle of Hope, the following scripture is suggested:

SCRIPTURE

Chapter 1
1. When the first night had come upon the world, the Mistress of All Things stood alone once more, as She had in the beginning. 2. For a terrible abyss had opened to lie between the world
and She, and Her creatures could not look upon Her brightness.
3. And She stood in contemplation upon the waters of the first darkness; like a great
dove upon the waters She brooded. 4. She became absorbed within Her and communed with
Her own self; and Her light ceased to shine forth from Her, and yet Her light grew greater. 5.
Then She fell to Her knees, and the surface of the waters became turbulent and the great waves
curled over Her, and their white foam could not be seen in all that darkness.
6. When the waters became calm again, the Mistress of All Things rose to Her feet: 7.
for She had conceived a daughter that was not separate from Her, but one with Her, and the
child of Her light.
Chapter 5
1. And She walked across the seas and deep into the forests of the earth until She came upon the
deep cave that was at the centre. 2. And She entered the cave, and a star rose above the sacred
grove that lay about the cave, brighter and more resplendent than all the stars of the heavens, 3.
and the star was seen all over the earth; and the children of the earth were filled with wonder
and they came to the place where the star stood in the sky. The Mythos of the Holy Daughter, The Filianic Scriptures, New Celestial Union Edition, online.

We honor several stars in the Deanic Faith: the five-pointed star, the North Star and the seven-pointed star. This year, as previously noted, we will be introducing a new custom revolving around the seven-pointed star as gifted to the community by ArchMatrona Ghrian. How perfect for the month of Astrea, meaning Star or Star Maiden!

CONTEMPLATION

The Eye of God Nebula.

More and more, it is said that the entire universe is alive, is conscious! That consciousness, in Janite belief, is the Holy Daughter, She Who is the Soul of All Nature and that Consciousness is also that of Our Celestial Mother, Mari/Sophia, Who is the Spirit of the manifest Universe. Our Holy Mother gives birth to the Primordial Ideas of the Great/Dark Mother. She breathes into it the Holy Breath of spirit and the Holy Daughter wraps it all and us in Her Wondrous Soul.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Silver Star of the Waters: (Janite edition of the original Madrian).

Silver Star of the Waters, Who has fashioned all the Cosmos into Being, Beyond all knowing is the Splendour of Your Light. Enfold my spirit, beneath Your Mighty Mantle, and may the Pure Stream of Your Grace flow within me, in this world and in all the worlds to come, Amena.

SUGGESTED POETRY

Stars

by Sara Teasdale

Alone in the night
On a dark hill
With pines around me
Spicy and still,

And a heaven full of stars
Over my head,
White and topaz
And misty red;

Myriads with beating
Hearts of fire
That aeons
Cannot vex or tire;

Up the dome of heaven
Like a great hill,
I watch them marching
Stately and still,

And I know that I
Am honored to be
Witness
Of so much majesty. Source
