O, Agia Candre, Jana of Reflection, Reason and Purity, be with us.
Wow, I can’t believe we are already in the last week of the Sacred Season of Spring. Time flies by so fast!
Recently, there have been some internal discussions about our place as Janites, within the Greater Community.
Increasingly, we Janites are finding ourselves to be in a bit of a conundrum. As more and more devotees come to define themselves as being Deanic, the less and less we find ourselves to be recognizable under the sole label of Deanism.
Deanism is not a religion. It is an umbrella term. Deanism, has become such a broad term, that the only commonality between Deanists, let alone between Deanists and Janites, is a belief that Dea is Mother God and that She is Supreme. And, that’s pretty much where the commonality ends. The modern Deanist movement has widened beyond the scope of the Janite Tradition.
And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. It is wonderful that all these Deanic Traditions are manifesting in our modern era. But, more and more, we, as Janites, are finding that we have very little in common with many of these Deanic Traditions/religions and just about everything in common with the Filianic religion, itself.
In light of this conundrum, it is has been suggested to us that we consider becoming a Janite Rite of Filianism similar to how the Byzantine Church is a Rite of the Roman Catholic Church. As a Rite of the RCC, the members of the Byzantine Rite are still able to fully retain their identity, which is very similar to Orthodox Christianity. They serve the Orthodox Christian Divine Liturgy, use icons as opposed to statues, follow the Orthodox Christian holy days, honor their own saints, observe their own times of Fast, etc., omit the Filioque in the Creed, and yet, there are some ways where they meld with the RCC, beautifully.
And so, we, as Janites, must decide our position within the Greater Community.
The final decision as to whether or not to form as a Janite Rite of the Filianic religion will be made public within the next few weeks, Dea Volente’.
O, Agia Vicka, Jana of Courage, Strength and Valor, be with us.
Tonight is the Full Flower Moon. The RoS may be served using the Preface for the Holy Daughter for Spring. https://deanic.com/the-rite-of-sacrifice/.
What is Orthodox Filianism?
Until the recent arrival of Wicca, Goddess and Neo-Pagan religions, if a person wished to belong to a religion, they accepted and followed the belief system and the canons (church laws) of their Church, be it a small bible chapel or a large mainstream church like Roman Catholicism, Orthodox Christianity and so forth. They also strove to follow the moral and ethical strictures of the religion in question. It was unheard of to ‘pick and choose’ what you wanted to believe or not to believe. What some have termed, a cafeteria-style religion.
How do we compare Deanism, Filiainism and Orthodox Filianism?
Deanism, in general, is similar to modern Wicca in that Deanism has a tendency to be very eclectic and it can mean different things to different people. The basic, fundamental premise is a belief in Dea as Supreme Being and coming to know and to love Her. But, in contrast, unlike Wicca and general Deanism, Filianism is not eclectic. It is not diverse. Filianism means certain things. To be a member of the Filianic religion means certain things.
In its strictest sense, Deanism, let alone Orthodox Filianism, does not include the worship or honoring of male deities. Modern Deanic Traditions might abide by the Living Stream guidelines or they might not. They may or may not include the Filianic Creed, the Filianic-Madrian Scriptures (now referred to as the Clear Recital or the Recital), the Janae/Janati or any other number of our beliefs, doctrines and practices. They may be Trinitarian or they might worship the Mother, only. The basic common denominator amongst Deanists is that Dea is Supreme Being and there are none beside Her.
What about Filianism?
First of all, Filianism is not a feminist religion.
It is a common misunderstanding that Filianism is a feminist religion. The Chapel, itself, has specifically stated in the past that Filianism is a feminine and not a feminist religion. Orthodox Filianism is not feminist. Past articles on the CMG (Chapel of Our Mother God) often contrast Filianism with ‘feminist goddess religions“.
In addition to the religion being all Feminine in its Deity and basic belief system, the inherent Filianic culture is not so much feminist as it is feminine. Indeed, the customs and culture of Filianism is incrediblyfeminine. We rejoice in this celebration of femininity. The culture of a religion is the fullest expression of its defining quality.
In order to consider oneself Filianic, a person must be able to fully accept the Creed. This includes accepting the Sacrificial Daughter because to be Filianic literally means to be ‘of the Daughter’ and this implies a belief in Her Sacrifice.
Even more so than Deanism, to be Filianic means that no male deities are worshiped. If a person honors or worships male deities, they cannot rightly claim they are Filianic. They might be Deanic according to the modern interpretation of the term, (as long as they believe that Dea is Supreme), but they are not Filianic. Knowing this, I tend to find it a bit perplexing when I hear about devotees who refer to themselves as being not just Filianic, but Orthodox Filianic, and yet, they worship or honor male gods. This is not part of Orthodox Filianism, which is Filianism in its strictest form. (This issue is clearly stated.http://www.mother-god.com/filianism.html).
Filianism uses only Living Stream images for Dea. (http://www.mother-god.com/pagan-h.html). There are thealogical reasons for this and this is one of the things which separates Filianism from neo-Paganism, Wicca and New Age Goddess Traditions.
While Filianism makes clear that Pagan goddesses may not be used for Dea, the Chapel is more lenient about using non-Living Stream Images/Forms for the Janae/Janyati due to their relevant symbolism. But Janites have elected to use only angelic forms or images for the Janae.
Being Filianic includes the responsibility of helping to channel the Love of Dea into the world from a standpoint of Pure Love and service to others; the daily practice of the Virtues, and following the instructions on the care of the soul as found in the Clear Recital.
On a personal note, when I first came into the Faith about 8 years ago, I entered through Filianism. But, over time, there were certain Filianic doctrines with which I was not in agreement. And, due to the fact that there were doctrines and a part of the Creed with which I didn’t agree, I realized that I could no longer consider myself to be Filianic. As a past Filianic bishop once explained, Filianism means certain things and you have to be able accept the Creed. And so I was honest and I stopped referring to myself as being Filianic.
Within the past year, I have been able to work through many of these doctrinal issues with which I was not in agreement. Due to recent clarifications on the doctrine of Original Sin and the doctrine of the death of the Daughter, I am now able to accept the Creed and the scriptures, in full. (Janites add belief in the Janae to the Creed.)
My only remaining issues with Orthodox Filianism is that basically, not only I do not accept the idea of the Janae as being ‘intermorphs’, (an idea which was not found in Madrianism), I do not accept the idea that the masculine Principle and Quality does not survive death.
I don’t mean to make light of these teachings; there are reasons for them. But, on a personal level, I don’t accept them. I believe the Janae are Female, but they are not intermorphs.
And, I believe that Dea created both females and males and that they are spiritually equal. I believe that both go to Avala and after the karmic reincarnation cycle, they are assumed unto Eternal Life. What happens to the Principle/Quality of Gender (which is not the same as biological sex) once it reaches the greatest heights of Perfect Union with Perfection, Herself? I don’t know. This is not something that has been revealed to us by God and no-one has come back from the Realm of Perfection to tell us.
But, I am now in accord with all the main doctrines.
So, in essence, someone who is Orthodox Filianic would not include the worship or honoring of any male gods. An Orthodox Filianic would not believe that a person may survive death in a male state of being. And being Orthodox Filianic means that you believe in the Sacrificial Daughter and everything else as stated in the Creed. (Having a creed and doctrines helps to protect the integrity and intrinsic identity of the religion itself. ) And most of all, aside from loving Dea, being Filianic means a concentration on purifying the soul and living in kindness to others.
If one is looking to Filianism as being a feminist religion, then quite honestly, I think they are missing the point.
Being Orthodox Filianic doesn’t just mean that you use the Filianic names of the months, days and feast days and belief in Dea; it means a lot of things.

O, Madria Sage, Jana of Intelligence, Intuition and Wisdom, be with us.
I would like to draw your attention to the following About Page: priestessofholywisdom.wordpress.com/about
This is an excellent introduction to what the authoress calls Sophian Filianism.
I’m not sure the About Page is listed on her menu, and so we will be including this particular link in our links section.
The Janites might also refer to themselves as Sophian Deanic as the Janite Tradition, like the Kyrian Tradition before it, was created to honor Sophia as Our Mother/Daughter God.
I am in complete agreement with this well written article and I, too, have come to understand the Barbelo, ( though some Gnostics tried to claim She was either male or androgynous), as being Absolute Deity. She is understood by many scholars to be the Higher Avatar or Form of Sophia.
Both Monad and Monogenes, terms used by Gnostics to describe the Absolute, were originally feminine nouns. This is why Janites often refer to the Absolute, the Great Mother, as the Monas, the original form of Monad.
The teachings on this priestessofholywisdom website are perfectly compatible with Janite Tradition. Zoe is an acceptable Form for the Holy Daughter and the authoress does a fine job of tying in the story of Zoe-Eve with the idea of the Filianic Sacrifice. In fact, there is a connection here, with our communion rite, something which we received from the Madrians and known to our priestesses both past and present, if they could but make the connection.
It must be remembered that like Christianity, Gnosticism is more of an umbrella term for different schools of Gnostic thought which oftentimes resulted in the variations of the myths.
In Sophian Filianism, we are merely restoring Sophia to Her original Glory because only in Gnosticism is there the idea that the Divine Daughter of Wisdom could possibly commit an huge error by choosing to create by Herself and so, just as the powerful Roman Church blamed a human female, Eve, for the Fall of Creation, so Gnostic Christians blamed the Divine Female for the Fall of Creation and through their myths, raped Eve.
This is why I left Gnosticism. I had enough of the extremely misogynistic, evil teachings of Catholic (I am a former Catholic) and Gnostic Christianity where females are blamed for the plight of humanity and creation and thereby needing a male saviour. In Gnosticism, the Divine Sophia, Who is trapped here, is forced to beg, through singing many songs of repentance, for Her male savior to allow Her to re-ascend through the realms .
I have lived the results of these false teachings as have my fore-mothers before me. It results in women becoming second class citizens in their churches, taking part of the blame for Eve’s ‘fault’ and, at times, being considered spiritually inferior but saved through childbirth or obeying their husbands. This might sound farfetched, but it was the experience of females in my former church for almost two millennia until just a few short decades ago. It has yet to be completely eradicated.
Let me make clear that here, I am not speaking about women becoming priests in the Catholic Church. I am a firm believer that males should liturgically channel the Divine Masculine while females should liturgically channel the Divine Feminine.
I feel that those who have resurrected the Gnostic Churches since the finding of the Nag Hamadi texts should stop and think about what they are doing when they perpetuate an ancient MYTH which, perhaps without meaning to, demonizes, degrades, traps, rapes and humiliates the Divine Female. Even if they consider Her to be the lowest Aeon, She is still Divine and on the same level as Christ, the Logos, Her Twin. Imagine if all of this stuff was taught about the Christ Aeon!
And what is even worse, this time, it is not just an human female, the mother of all humanity on Earth, but the Divine Female, the Mother of the Cosmos, Wisdom, Herself, Who is degraded blamed, ultimately forcing the Divine Daughter of Wisdom to beg for mercy from Her male consort.
If modern Gnostics can veer away from the Gnostic belief that manifest creation is evil, why can’t they realize that the demotion of the Divine Feminine is just as erroneous. It is clear that some Gnostic Christians re-wrote some of the pre-Christian texts to suit their inherent bias.
Why don’t they restore Her to Her original place and reveal Her to be the Sacrificial Heroine that Kabbalists see in Her counterpart, the Shekinah? (www.universalkabbalah.net/Shekinah. See especially the second paragraph under Shekinah and Creation.)
In Gnostic Christianity….it is ok for a Male to create without His Female consort, but, apparently, a Female may not do the same without wreaking havoc, destruction and causing immense suffering.
We do not accept such teachings. And certainly, the Russian mystics did not and do not see Sophia that way nor do those Christians, both ancient and modern, who understood Her to be the Holy Spirit, Whom, in Gnostic texts, Jesus referred to as his MOTHER.
And so, in summary, the male theologians took our human mother and blamed her for the Fall and all the evils and sickness of creation.
They blamed her for ‘enticing her husband to sin’. And the Roman Church went so far as to say we all had to inherit this sin….that we are literally born with the stain of Original Sin on our souls which is why Jesus had to be tortured and killed so that the stain could be removed through baptism and the gates of heaven be re-opened.
So, in other words, ultimately, according to mainstream Christianity, the male savior had to come because the female Eve sinned against the male god and caused her husband to sin. So, they demoted and demonized our human mother, the mother of all the Living.
The Gnostics did the exact same thing to Our Divine Mother, Sophia, Divine Wisdom, the Mother of all the Cosmos, Who as part of the Godhead, cannot make such an error.
And, they went so far as to have our human mother, who had the Light of the Daughter, Zoe-Sophia within Her, raped and defiled! (Though, I believe the Light of Zoe first departed from Eve)!
Let us remember that these were myths that were written by men; they were not historical events. We do not have to accept parts of myths that defile and demote the female whether human or divine. This is what gives religious zealots, both past and present, the idea that it is ok to treat women as being spiritually inferior.
At the same time that the Gnostics defamed, demoted, trapped, raped and defiled the Divine Feminine, the Roman Church, took Her away completely by making Her into a male with the erroneous teaching that both the Logos and His Twin, Wisdom, incarnated forever as the male, Jesus and further teaching that the Holy Spirit is male, thereby leaving us with only the human mother, Mary, who must never be considered divine, because only the male can be considered divine.
(And I don’t want to hear any excuses as to how the Church really believes that God is either genderless or that God is both male and female. The Traditional Catholic Church clearly taught that God was male and explained why.) And this human mother, Mary, was dependent upon her son for her immaculate conception. (There is an excruciating attempt to explain this in Catholic theology where this was preordained for her through the future merits of her son.)
So, again, thanks to male theology, we have yet another female who, though this time is not blamed for the Fall, she is still dependent on a male saviour and cannot be divine. So, we can have a divine Father, but not a Divine Mother.
Thankfully, there is a school of Russian thought where Mary is considered to be the incarnation of Sophia.
I say that there is no place in the 21st century for these antiquated, misogynist in the extreme, harmful teachings. And I am not making these statements as a radical feminist. Quite the contrary, I am a traditional, conservative woman. But, I am a woman who has the Divine Spark of my Mother residing within the temple of my soul and it is for Her, for Our Very and True Mother, that I fight.
I fight for Her right to be recognized as being Divine in Her Own Right; Who is not dependent on a male consort or a male saviour in order to be part of the Godhead.
She is Supreme. She gave birth to the Male. She is God in Her Own right. She did not sin, or error, or cause the Fall. She did not get raped or create the half aborted demi-urge or half-maker. She is not trapped here against Her Divine and Powerful Will. Nor is She the Ruler of the Seven Hebdomas who are evil archonic planetary powers. This is an inversion of the truth.
Why must we accept these awful myths that were written by men, not women….. thousands of years ago? Especially when we have the evidence that they changed some of the original texts to suit their narrative? (More on that to come in the near future.)
This is why, decades ago, I sought to somehow become a valid priestess and form an Order through which She could be honored and worshiped as God in Her Own Right, just as did the Collyridians of old. (Evidence has recently come to light that the Collyridians were more far-reaching than previously thought and may have lasted for centuries).
This is also why Janites believe that the worship of the Mother must be kept separate from Divine Masculine worship because, as many of us have experienced, She is all too quickly subsumed by the Divine Masculine. The painting of Sophia and Jehovah in the Sistine Chapel is a clear illustration of this experience. Jehovah is huge, mighty, strong while Sophia is tiny and shadowed beneath his arm.
Through the blessing of the Deanic/Filianic religion, whose roots may go back further than I initially thought, we have the tools to take Sophia, Our Divine Mother God, out of the shadow of the Divine Masculine and restore Her to Her proper place.
We can free Her from being raped, demoted, trapped, demonized, humiliated and restore for Her, the recognition of Her Glory, Her Divinity…..
March 2nd: Veiled Full Moon. (For the Celestial Mother).
We use the preface of the Great Mother for the Rite of Sacrifice and for the Liturgy which is, O Dea Matrona, Dark Moon of Origin, shelter us beneath Your Veil of Mystery.
The candles on the altar (which should be object blessed) and the veil/hat that we wear during formal prayer and ritual should be either black or indigo . (Keep in mind, the liturgical colors are the colors of the robes of the Janae. These are colors that are symbolic of Who They Are in Their Spiritual Essence.) The Moura altar cloth is the elemental seasonal color of violet. This can be a doily, hankey/handkerchief, table cloth. (Which should be object blessed). There are no flowers on the altar
The Rite of Sacrifice (RoS) may be served by anyone Déanic / Filianic.
It would be nice if the RoS is served by the members of the J.O.P. Sisterhood at least on the Full Moons.
On the Trinity days (Foradi/Sunnadi/Lunadi) if they so desire, although this is not mandatory.
Exceptions may be made for the members of the Iremian Order who have difficulty with these types of rituals. In that case, they may compose their own prayers, hymns or a more informal method of worship.
It is altered and my copyright but as long as this is not used for profit, I am happy for it to be shared.
I have chosen old gold for Mother Mari’s holy halo, stars and head veil symbolising Her as supernal Sun. Her blue dress symbolising sky and Heaven. “Astrea brings the frost and snow
And also brings a Star –
Sign of our Lady’s love, to show
Her coming is not far.”
The Thirteen Months, anonymous.
Adoria will begin after the appearance of the First Star of the Evening, which I think is a really beautiful and lovely Tradition. Even more so as we are celebrating not only the Appearance of the Holy Daughter, but we are also celebrating Her as the Triple Stars: She is the Star of Hope, the Midnight Star of Wonder and the North Guiding Star.
Evening Star / Venus : Star of Hope
The evening star represents the hopeful and joyful anticipation of the Divine Appearance of Daughter God on earth within our cosmic drama. Humanity when we chose to leave our Mother God to explore and know everything, distanced ourselves from Déa. “The evening star Venus often symbolized a fall from grace.” Janites would re-phrase ‘fallen’ to ‘separation’.
THE MYTHOS OF THE DIVINE MAID
1 When the first night had come upon the world, the Mistress of All Things stood alone once more, as She had in the beginning.
2 For a terrible abyss had opened to lie between the world and She, and Her creatures could not look upon Her brightness.
The Mother being “too bright for us to look upon.” “The Celestial Mother is often compared to the (Supernal) Sun, in how She can be seen to us, but also too bright to fully look upon from our perspective. We see glimpses of Her, but She does not have One True Face to be seen, for She dazzles all of us differently. While the Mother’s radiance is too bright to look upon for long, the Daughter acts as a mirror to reflect that light in a gentle but dimmed form for us to experience.” (Supernal Moon)
“For Adoria [Nativity] is the beginning of everything. It is the act by which Déa brings Herself back to us after we have become utterly cut off from Her.”
THE MYTHOS OF THE DIVINE MAID
1 And She walked across the seas and deep into the forests of the earth until She came upon the deep cave that was at the centre. 2 And She entered the cave. And a star rose above the sacred grove that lay about the cave, brighter and more resplendent than all the stars of the heavens. 3 And the star was seen all over the earth; and the children of the earth were filled with wonder, and they came to the place where the star stood in the sky.
With the appearance of that first star / planet, the Janae and also humanity, are waiting in hope for our Celestial Mother Mari to proceed (emanate) Kore Di Jana, who mediates the Divine Light to all creation, She sustains and preserves all planes of manifestation (worlds). Kore Di Jana, our Madria Filia is the Holy Hope whom uplifts, inspires and thereby leads and guides humanity’s words, thoughts and deeds in this world back to focus upon Madria Déa.
“Originally, the terms “morning star” and “evening star” applied only to the brightest planet of all, Venus. Far more dazzling than any of the actual stars in the sky, Venus does not appear to twinkle, but instead glows with a steady, silvery light. The fact that Venus was a “wandering star” soon became obvious to ancient sky watchers, who noticed its motion relative to the background stars, going from the eastern sky in the morning to the western sky in the early evening. I myself like to refer to Venus as the “night light of the sky.””
“Even the most sophisticated of mortals cannot help but sense the awesome majesty of the evening skies nor, beholding it, long refrain from wondering and pondering deep and far away thoughts, as the immense canopy of the stars descends upon them.”
The word pentagram comes from the Greek: “pente means 5 (as in Pentagon). “Gram” comes from the Greek verb graphein, “to write”. The same ending is found in such words as telegram. Thus, pentagram refers to a five pointed star, or “any figure of five lines.”
An upright pentagram is a 5 pointed star with one point aligned upwards.
The symbol itself dates back to Roman times, where it was called the “Rose of Venus.”
The planet Venus is associated with Jana Madria Grace, and one of Her virtues is Love and Her path of Love. This is for those who are of an emotional or spiritual inclination: lovers of the world, Priestesses, and mystics.
All this path requires is to love Déa and keep moving upwards towards Her.
This symbol apparently originated as the symbol of a Goddess who was worshiped over an area which extends from present-day England to Egypt and beyond. Her name was Kore (a.k.a. Car, Cara, Carnac, Ceres, Core, Kar, Karnak, Kaur, Kauri, Ker, Kerma, Kher, Kore, Q’re, etc.). As Carmenta she was said to have invented the Roman alphabet. From her alternative Roman name Ceres have evolved many English words: cardiac, carnal, cereal, core, corn, and kernel. The port of Caraalis, (now Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia), was named after her.
Kore was worshiped within the Coptic Gnostic Christian religion in Alexandria, Egypt, during the 4th century CE. Her festival, the Koreion, was held yearly on JAN-6. This was adopted by the Christian church as Feast of Epiphany (a.k.a. Twelfth Night).
5000 years ago, the people of Eastern Europe and Alexandria, Egypt worshipped the Holy Virgin Goddess Kore, holding her to be the inner soul of Mother Earth, the female spirit of the universe. Her festival, the Koreion, was held on the Winter Solstice’s shortest day, which by their calendar calculations was January 6th.
The Koreion Festival celebrated Kore giving birth to the New Year god, the Aeon. At this festival, the priests announced to the public that the Holy Virgin had brought forth the Savior, the Aeon, whose image was decorated with gold stars and the sign of the cross, and was carried seven times around the temple.
3000 years later — in the early centuries CE — Eastern European Christians superimposed a new holiday onto the ancient Koreion Festival of the Holy Virgin Goddess. They transformed Kore’s January 6 festival into a holiday they named “Epiphany,”
On this day Kore was supposed to be giving birth to the New Year god, the Aeon (originally meaning life but tended to mean ‘age’, ‘forever’ or eternity). In the story of Kore and Aeon, we can see the probable origin of the concepts of Virgin Births and Saviors.
7. And the voice of the Jana was like to the rushing of a thousand waters. 8. And she spoke, saying: “Be not afraid, for a new light is dawning over the world. Be not afraid, but approach no further, for if you cannot look on me, how should you look upon my Lady, whose handmaiden I am?” 9. And her voice grew gentle, like the wind among the icicles, and sweet beyond all telling. 10. Then she spoke, saying: “This night shall a child appear that shall be the daughter of light and the princess of all the world. 11. A child is coming that she shall carry the light of Déa into every part of creation, even to the most desolate of the places of darkness. 12. Rejoice, poor wanderers of the earth and exiles from the house of your Mother, for to you shall come a guide and a deliverer.”
Midnight marks Adoria the eternal appearance of Holy Daughter God, amongst creation, from Divine Mother God.
“The Languages of Symbolism is very deep, rich and very ancient and it is an art to be able to saturate yourself into it, and then test it in the actions of yours and other peoples lives. If writing is the invention of the language of the mind and all that comes with that… prior to history, symbolism was the language of the soul and all that comes with that. It is the root language of the empaths, the dreamers, the artists and the shamans which existed long before any creation of the runes, the alphabet or any written language…
My focus is on one of the symbols of my ancestors which is called the “Star” or what was in prehistory the “Midnight Sun”. In Ukraine traditions, its called the Mysteries of Kolyadky…”
In Latvia, the Hexagonal Star is this
The 8 sided star is the star of redemption. (The action of saving or being saved from error, sin or evil).
Saule as Feminine Sun (which remember is also a star [2a])
is the Hexagonal Star within a Circle.
SAULES ZĪME In Latvian folk folklore this description of the symbol means heavenly shining, the Sun is central. The sun sign is strong.
“Latvian folklore specially points that central star of the space is Saule (Sun). Sun is symbol of eternal movement and life. In the line of other stars, Sun is placed in one of the highest hierarchical star rating. Sun sees everything and knows everything. In the territory of Latvia Sun symbols are found on bone tools already in Late Stone Age. Rhomb or cube is also seen as symbol of Sun and is seen on the ceramics of Middle Stone Age. Sun is placed to be in the most honorable position any symbol can be. It is also because Sun is represented as mother of all children.” [2b]
“…the festival which is called that of Kolyáda,…seems to have referred in ancient times to the renewed life universally attributed to the Sun after the winter solstice, when the gloom of the long nights begins to give way to the light of the lengthening day. At that time, according to popular tradition, the Sun–a female being–arrays herself in her holiday robe and head-dress, takes her seat in her teléga, and urges her horses upon the summer track.
And to this solar goddess the people have given the name of Kolyada, and a custom used once to prevail in many places, and in some may still be kept up, of representing her by a girl dressed in white, who was seated on a sledge and driven about from house to house, while Kolyadki were sung by the young people who attended her, and who had various presents made to them in return; such gifts being supposed to have represented the contributions to a sacrifice which used to be made in the days of old. Here is one of the songs still sung at the Christmas festivals:–
Kolyada has arrived
On the Eve of the Nativity.
We went about, we sought
Through all the courts, in all the alleys.
We found Kolyada
In Peter’s Court.
Round Peter’s Court there is an iron fence,
In the midst of the Court there are three rooms:
In the first room is the bright Moon;
In the second room, the red Sun;
And in the third room, the many Stars.” [Déanic symbolism 4a]
The name of Kolyáda, or Koleda, being derived by one philologist from Kolo, a wheel, and connected by another with Kolóda, a kind of yule log. [4b]
“On Christmas Eve was Kolyada born
Beyond the rapid river”
Explanation of the song lyrics:
“Like the Celts, Greeks and Balts, the Slavs believed that the western isle of paradise, Bouyan (from bui, “burning, ardent, fruitful, vernal”), [vernal means spring], was ruled by the sun-maiden Zorya. Zorya is the same word as Surya and can simply be taken to mean “Sun”. The details of Bouyan closely resemble the Baltic isle, home of Saule. Zorya sits not upon the cold grey stone of the Baltic or Swedish Sun-goddess, but upon the wonderful “fiery stone” Alatuir which is either a crystal, like the Sun-stone of the Celts, or amber, well-known in
northern lands for its solar connotations. [6a & 6b]
The “rapid river” is that which flows from beneath the Alatuir-stone of the western isle. Beneath its cold and turbulent waters lies the underworld, through which the Sun must pass every night. [6b]
Another song describes how “Holy Kolyada” is sought everywhere on the Eve of Nativity (that is, the Sun is “lost” in the darkness of Solstice night).
“The main attribute of Christmas and the Mysteries of Kolyadky is since ancient times, as it was pagan octagonal star, called by the ancestors as Sura (from al-atar “white or heat-combustible”) in Ukraine. Star-Sura is a Ukrainian eight pointed star which represents the eight major cycles of nature within the four seasons. Its
characteristics are within folk ornamentation, especially the Hutsul. Overall, this symbol is found in every area of folk art in Ukrainian pysanky, Ukrainian embroidery, folk carving, etc. Esoteric, Sura is oktahramu: projection diamond (heavenly light) to the square (the material world) [Déanic symbolism 7] and their mutual peresikannya. It [She] connects all corners of the world and marks the absolute balance, harmony and balance, making a powerful healing effect.

In Latvia, its the Night Sun or Midnight Star as it is associated with Winter, the Winter Solstice and the protection from evil and shadows of the underworld.
Simplest form of star is simple cross which symbolizes as elements, the Fire and the Light which are basically the same thing, called Spirit. Pagan Latvians believes that magical rituals can be performed with this symbol and it often has a great meaning to those who use it in a sacred way.”

The Sign of the Moon Star
In songs it is often referred to as a protector and contains numerous references to “star blankets” and “star coats.”
“During late paganism eras (after the 8th-10th century), with the influences of Christian and Catholic Religions, the Midnight Star has been called Koliada in Ukraine and other Slavic and Balkan pagan winter traditions, which is most important in ancient winter ceremonies and celebrations and then later into Christmas and Christian Religions.

One question is: “Were the origins of the Winter Solstice Ceremonies Dances or Songs or both” ? Koleda is always celebrated with Carolers, but the root of the term “Carol” actually refers to “dancing” rather than its common connotation regarding song or singing. In Old French, “carole” is translated to “dance.” Similarly, in both Latin (choraula) and Greek (choraules) the root of the term means “to dance with the accompaniment of flute”. Thus caroling can actually be traced to more archaic traditions of solstice ritual dance much like kukeri,
the bear dances or mummer’s purification dances (in some purer villages) in its shamanic roots.
In Pre-Christian eras, Northern Europeans and Eastern Europeans would travel in order to join together to sing and dance in honor of the sacredness of the Winter Solstice. Although after the 13th century most carols centered around religion or pagan celebrations. These dances were directly birthed from the sacred shamanic dances of women that occurred during the winter moons of the time of peace when the oceans became calm and they were joined in dreaming by all their shaman and sacred sisters around the earth, called dream incubation of the cave eras.
The verb ‘koliadovat’ means to go from door to door, singing ritual songs, asking for sweets and the pagan aspects of wearing animal masks. Koliada is the time between Korochun (the Winter Solstice) and the first week of January. Lighted fires and candles are to light the darkest time of the year which was to echo the
ancient pagan custom of banging the sparks from the burning Budnik ritual log, that is lit up at Koliada, much like the English Yule log. Sviatky in Russia is equivalent to yuletide and is celebrated in January where all the young
girls and women in the family would practice folk divination, which is mostly melted wax into a water bowl.
The modern term of children and caroler’s singing is called kolyadovannya in Ukrainian and is now applied to similar Old East Slavic celebrations. In Bulgarian and Macedonian traditions of koleduvane (коледуване) or koledarenje (коледарење) which are also around Christmas and the Kolyadka (songs) are sung as well.
Koleda is also celebrated across northern Greece by the Slavs of Macedonia in Florina to Thessaloniki which is called Koleda (Κόλιντα, Κόλιαντα) and Koleda Babo (Κόλιντα Μπάμπω) which means “Koleda Grandmother” in Slavic and this directly ties Koleda (Winter Solstice) to the Winter Goddess Marzana making it the most archaic Koleda. This is a ritual of gathering in the village square and lighting a bonfire, followed by local Macedonian dancing. There is also a dance from Dubrovnik called “The Dubrovnik Koleda.”
Wigilia is the traditional Polish Christmas eve celebrations and sometimes called “gwiazdory” which is reference to the “Star” carriers. Before the 11th century they were all pagan celebrations and rituals and the oral traditions which were passed down for millenniums for generation to generation were lost and all we have left is a very small narrow culture of religious songs that lack the mystery. Poland’s Koledy, like other Slavic countries still [feature a] bright Star along with the singers and folk musician spreading seasonal good wishes.
Before wars descended upon the earth, men also had their essential roles and parts in the great rituals of the tribe and clans. Their rites (like most cultures) are historically viewed as war dances, but in actuality there was no war-based intentions in their origins, that was propaganda, a myth projected as real when they were just dances.
The ancient tradition of creating art is also an important path, as both talisman (to be worn) and amulet (to be placed or hung) has also been carried on in Slavic traditions of Christmas.”

[2a] “When we look up at the nights sky, we often forget that we are looking at suns. They are obviously much further away, which is why they seem tiny compared to the miraculous golden orb that lights our day times, but they are still suns. On a clear night, when you look at the night sky and see stars, you are in fact looking at thousands and thousands of far away suns.”

[4a] Peter’s Court is a christianising of the pagan, celestial palace.
In Déa-nic terms we would state the pleroma, Heaven, the realm of Perfect Good.
This describes the realms of “O, Celestial Mother, You are our Universal Light, shining like the Sun; O, Holy Daughter, You are the gentle Moon of our salvation; O, Great Mother, You are the sheltering Stars above us.” from our Liturgy.

In Déa-nic terms: diamond in the Madrian Geniae (Janae) correspondences is Sun and Theia and square symbolises the four-fold Janae of earth elements which Holy Daughter God sustains. Guiding North Star
THE MYTHOS OF THE DIVINE MAID
18. When the shining ones ceased from their song, the world became quiet again, and the star grew brighter and ever brighter, until it shone brighter than the radiance of all the host of heaven; and yet its light was so gentle that the eyes of earth’s children were not dazzled, 19. and the colour of the light was not one of the seven, but a wondrous luminance not known within the boundaries of the world.
The Northern Star, or Polaris, also appears to ‘stand still’ in the sky, while all the other stars revolving around it just as the Janae and all hosts of Heaven surround Our Lady. It is a ‘fixed’ point in the sky, a constant companion for setting one’s course just as the Holy Daughter is ever with us to guide us on our own Soul Path. It represents infinity, eternity. The eternity symbolism can also represent going from a temporal, mortal state to an eternal, immortal, re-united state.
Sailors use the Northern Star to navigate the often-times treacherous seas of the northern hemisphere, it was the Guiding Star home, just as the Holy Daughter, guides us back to the Celestial Mother and to the Supernal Realm which is our True Home.
This is why Janites call Her Holiness Kore Di-Jana meaning Daughter Divine Gate of Our Mother God.
Our Lady is known as Stella Maris, Star of the Sea. The Star itself was once known as Stella Mars (Star of the Sea).
