Solitary Rite of Veneration

For private use, only. Thank you. A. M. Pamela Lanides

As adapted from the original Madrian:

Devotees should be modestly dressed. Janite females ‘veil’ during formal rites and it is optional for personal prayers. Suggestions for veiling are chapel veils/mantillas, scarves, hats, kerchiefs, bandanas or a wide headband. The veil should be the liturgical color of the Season, if possible. (1) Males may wear religious head coverings, if desired.

 Altar Setup for THE RoV:

Table, chest, or altar should be placed in the East. The spiritual head of the household performing the Rite faces East unless otherwise indicated.

1. The altar cloth should be the (Elemental) color of the Season. (1)

2. There should be an image of Dea on the altar or a triptych (a special frame which contains three pictures) of the Trinity. (Other images may be hung above or around the altar.)

3. There should be three white candles, (I use tea lights), placed in front of the Image on the altar, two pillar or tall glass candles in the color of the Season on either side of the image, and if desired, two more white tealights/candles at the back of the altar.

The first three candles are in honor of the Trinity. When we add the two tall candles, we have five candles on the altar in honor of the Five Symbols of Mystery, (Apple/Pomegranate, Star, Fora, Dove and Rose). Seven Candles on the altar are symbolic of the Janati.

4. Good quality incense (for those who are not allergic).

5. Holy water in a bowl. To make Holy Water/Holy Oil

6. Holy oil.

7. Cup or chalice filled with white wine or white grape juice. The cup or chalice should be made of a natural material, not plastic. [If there is a large gathering, a back up chalice/cup of wine may be kept on hand. If it is needed, the celebrant blesses the wine before serving it.

8. Patené, which is the sacred plate made out of natural materials.

9. Fresh white bread, almond cookies or honey cakes.

For the fresh white bread, take a round cookie cutter or a small glass and cut a round piece out of the white loaf and place that on the patené. Corn meal or gluten-free bread may be used for those who have wheat allergies.

Place bread on patene’.

Place the chalice and patene’  next to each other the altar, chalice on the left, patene’ on the right.

9. A copy of the Deanic Scriptures placed on a small table or chair to the left of the altar.

Each time we ask the blessing of Our Lady over the gifts, we trace the Fora over  the chalice and  the patené. This is indicated by a +.

Dip fingers in holy water, trace the Fora over yourself while saying:) In the Name of the Mother and of the Daughter and of the Great Mother. Blessed is She.

Then pray:

Blessed is Our Mother God, the Holy One,

She Who is Mari,

She Who is Janah,

She Who is Mysteria,

Blessed is She.

Recite the Preface for the Season:

For Summer and Fall:

O, Supernal Sun of Our Creation, You Who are the Celestial Light, Essence and Spirit,  inflame us through Your Fiery Rose Heart.

For Winter and Spring:

O, Gentle Moon of our Salvation, You Who are the Earthly Love, Form and Soul, enter our hearts with Your Love.

For Moura:

O, Veiled Cosmic Origin, You Who are the Great Life, Source and Force, inspire us with Your Wisdom.

Pray: I seek sanctuary of the Janati of the fourfold Earth and of the Three-fold Heaven, that no harmful thing may come between ourselves and our devotion.

Then turn to each quarter, trace the sign of the Fora  in the air each time, while saying:

Face East and say: O, Lady Sushuri Grace, Guardian of East and Water, be with me. (Trace Fora and Bow)

Face South and say: O, Lady Vikhe’, Guardian of South and Fire, be with me. (Trace Fora and Bow)

Face West and say: O, Lady Thema, Guardian of West and Earth, be with me. (Trace Fora and Bow)

Face North and say: O, Lady Mati Saige, Guardian of North and Air, be with me. (Trace Fora and Bow)

Face East, (for Center) and say: O, Lady Theia, Lady Candra, and Lady Rhea, Guardians of Spirit and Center,  be with me. (Trace Fora and Bow)

Then pray: O, Great Janati, Divine Guardians of the Threefold Heaven and of the Fourfold Earth, you who have the governance of each Earthly and Heavenly thing, I invoke you in the Most Holy Name of She, Whom I have come to worship and adore, that in your midst this place be emptied of all that is not Holy; thus am I warded that my worship and devotion shall be pure.

(Trace the Fora upon yourself and bow while saying:)

In the Name of the Mother

And of the Daughter

And of  the Great Mother,

Dark beyond the light

And Light beyond the darkness,

Blessed are You.

Pray: Madria Dea,

Star of the Shimmering Depths, look upon me.

Light of the nocturnal heavens, Protector of the running deer

And of all free spirits, O, hear me.

I have come to celebrate Your resplendent purity and to solemnly devote myself to Your service. Mistress of the Silver-Helmed wave, be with me. Blessed are You.

Read aloud the chosen scripture reading.

Recite the Creed:

I believe that I am created from before the Dawn of Time,
by the Eternal One, Madria Dea.
And I believe that She is One and Three and Seven.

I believe in the Celestial Mother, She Who is Pure Light;
The Creatrix of the Earth and of the Heavens,
and of all the infinite Cosmos.

And I believe in Her Holy Daughter, born of the Celestial Mother;
She Who rules all the energies of Creation,
Whose Nature is Perfect Love.

And I believe that there is She, Who stands beyond these Two,
Whose Name has not been spoken upon this Earth;
For She is the Beginning and the end,
The First Principle and the Final Cause,
The unoriginated Origin of Being;
The Great Mother of all that is and all that is not; She, Who Is.

I believe in the Seven Janati, the Seven Great Powers of Dea.
I believe that they are the Living Streams of Virtue who flow from the Mother
and that, together, these Living Streams form the River of Life.

I believe that it is through the Holy Daughter,
that my soul shall rise, renewed in its Perfection,
that I may return to Eternal Communion with the Eternal One,
Madria Dea,
In the Completion of the Wholeness of Her Will. Blessed is She.

Pray:  Silver Star of the Waters,
Who has fashioned all the world into being,
beyond all knowing is the Splendour of Your Light.
Enfold my spirit, within your Mighty Mantle
and may the Pure Stream of Your Grace flow within me,
in this world and in all the worlds to come. Blessed are You.

Pray the following and trace the Fora over the bread and wine each time + appears in the text:

Madria Dea, I pray that You will Bless + the gifts that I bring to You, for I bring them not only in my own name, but for all who love You; may they be nourished and grow strong in Your true devotion. +

Beloved Kyria, I bring these gifts for Your blessing +  in the name of Holy Ekklesia, who has gathered all of Your children into one Soul, knowing no bounds of either time or space.

For I know that Ekklesia transcends this world, even as this sacred altar transcends the earthly stuff of which its parts are made. I know that as I stand before this altar within Ekklesia, I stand at once before Your Celestial Altar, which is both in Heaven and in every place where Your children come together in Your Name.

Hold the sacrifice (bread) in the smoke of incense with both hands. Place bread back on patene’. (This step is skipped if allergic to incense.)

C: I know that there is but one Sacrifice made by all Your children in every place, eternally. Bless this gift, + that I may take part in that one Sacrifice.

Pray: Mother of all that is, accept the gift Your child brings to You.

Lifts the Chalice in you left hand and traces the Fora over it with your right.

Pray: I offer libation to Dea.

Pour a few drops onto the sacrifice (bread), three times. Then trace the Fora over the chalice, again.

Pray: Madria Dea, as I drink of the one cup, may Your Divine Spirit be infused within my being.

Take three sips of the wine. Then bow.

(After the ritual, The Bread of Sacrifice may either be safely burned as an offering in a wood stove, campfire, etc. If this is not possible, it may be placed on the ground while saying: Return to Mother Nature. The remaining Wine is offered as a libation by pouring it on the ground while saying, Hail, Dea.)

Read silently: I kneel before this altar that is both upon Earth and in the Heaven. Consider that the earthly things you see about you are but illusion and that could you see with clearer eyes, a more glorious vision would appear before you. Feel the Spirit of Dea, as it grows within you and seek to catch a glimpse of that vision.

Optional: (This may be a time for silent meditation or this may be a time for chants, rosary, meditation, rituals,  poetry,  sacred dance, reading seasonal writings, divination, a litany, a canticle and other prayers, etc. There is a plethora of seasonal and full moon-related prayers and poems on the internet and there are a lot of great ideas to be found in books on the Wheel of the Year.)

O, Fiery Rose of Heaven,

O, Pure Dove of Grace,

O, Veiled Fora of Faith,

Help me to aspire to the heart of the flame.

C: You are the Music of the Spheres,

You are the Meaning of all words,

You are the end of every road and also its

Help me to come to know you.

Traces the Fora three times, once at each blessing while saying:

+ May the blessing of the Mother be upon you and upon this world.

+ May the blessing of the Daughter be upon you and upon this world.

+ May the blessing of the Great Mother be upon you and upon this world.

Dark beyond the Light and Light beyond the Darkness.

Then pray:

Beloved Kyria, I pray for Your Blessing as I depart Your Temple and infuse me with Your delight, so far as I are able to contain it.

Silver Light of the darkling forests, send me forth in the protection of Your Spirit that no profane thing may enter into me.

Grant that I may see all things with delight that are lovely and to glory and increase in force and energy.

Fill me with wonder in the sight of the seas and of the heavens and of every place wherein You are.

Commander of the roaring wave, help me to turn from all that is low or inglorious neither with anger nor with pain, but to know that in You I stand above all such things.

Guiding Light of the faithful soul, fill the deepest caverns of my spirit with the exhilaration of Your love. Send me forth upon the world as torchbearers of Your delight and grant me strength in You and in myself that I may value all things rightly, regardless of the consuming weight of the profane and the frailty of all that is beautiful.

Trace the sign of the Fora and say:

In the Name of the Mother

And of the Daughter

And of the Great Mother.

Blessed is She.

Raise arms, palms facing upward and say:

Let us bless the Holy One. Blessed is She.

Let us thank the Seven Janati of Power.

A: Thanks be to the Seven Janati..

Thus it is and thus may it remain. (Bows).
