MariMaia

1Maia/April 18

Stelladi/Wed.

O, Madria Sage, Jana of Intelligence, Intuition and Wisdom, be with us.

Today, in the Janite calendar, we have added the Feast of MariMaia for what is traditionally  the Month of Mary or Lady Month, as it was known, centuries ago.

(Please note that Janites celebrate the Feast of Flowers, Floralia, on 10 Flora/May 25.)

The month of May has long been celebrated in honor of the Motherhood and the Queenship of Mary. Originally, this consisted of 30 days of various devotions to Mary during Aug./Sept. This was later transferred to the lovely month of May.

Now that we are officially Sophian Deanic, something that we have been unofficially for quite some time, Marian devotions, traditions and culture takes on an even greater significance. As I have mentioned in past posts, not only do we have Marian roots stemming from the beginning of Madrianism, but in some areas of traditional Russian Christian Culture and in present-day Goddess Christian Culture, along with many Sophian Traditions, Mary is believed to have been the incarnation of Divine Sophia. It is significant that the feast day of Sophia, in the Gnostic calendar, falls on Aug. 15, which is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.

Additionally, Sophia has appeared to many and to one mystic She has said, ‘those who have prayed to Mary have been praying to Me’ And, so, many of the images we have of Mary may authentically be understood to be Images of Sophia.

Though the month of Maia is part of the Season of the Holy Daughter, it has traditionally been the month of the Mother. And, of course, the purpose of the Holy Daughter is to restore us to Our Divine Mother.

As it says in the Oral Tradition of the Secret Gospel of Mary, (not the fictional novel by the same name), “If you know the Woman of Light, you will know your Mother and be reborn of the Mother Spirit as a child of light.  Because the light is bornless, you will have eternal light.

“The body is born of the earthly mother, but the soul of light is born of the Heavenly Mother, and it is the Mother Spirit that awakens the soul of light.” (1)

Christos Sophia by Hikaru

In Janite Tradition, on the Feast of Coronam on 14 Maia/May 1, we crown the Holy Daughter, Our Princess of the World, as the Queen of Heaven.

Traditionally, going back many centuries, the Blessed Mother (Mary) was crowned as Queen of Heaven  And so, in Janite Tradition, on the Feast of Coronum, we may crown the Holy Daughter, Zoe (Daughter Sophia) as Queen of Heaven and, since it is the month of the Mother, we may crown the Celestial Mother, Mari/Maria (Mother Sophia) as Our High Queen.

So, each day of the month of Our Divine Mother, we may strive to do a little something in Her honor.

Plant marigolds, one of several flowers named after Our Lady.

Start a Mary Garden or outdoor shrine. Plant a flower pot and place an appropriate-sized statue of Mary inside or next to the pot for an apartment or windowsill or balcony. This site lists traditional Marian flowers.  https://www.slideshare.net/mobile/TheCatholicCompany/mary-garden-49004828 https://www.reallifeathome.com/how-to-start-a-mary-garden-in-7-easy-steps/

Marian houseplants suitable for the blind due to their form, texture and fragrance:
Mary’s Rose – Miniature Rose – Rosa hybrida
Mary’s Tresses – Asparagus Fern – Asparagus plumosus
Our Lady’s Fringes – Star Begonia – Begonia heracleifolia
Mary’s Bouquet – Rosemary – Rosmarinus officinalis
Mary’s Sword – Apostle Plant – Neomarcia gracilis
Mother of Thousands – Strawberry Geranium – Saxifraga sarmentosa
Beautiful Lady – Geranium (scented) – Pelargonum crispum

Recite Her litany, rosary, psalms or other of Her prayers.

We will be composing 9 day novenas to Her. In the meantime, any of the Marian novenas can be adapted for Janite use  such as the Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes, Who was very important to the Madrians. (2) Each day of the nine day novena, light a devotional candle to Our Lady and pray the prayer. When your prayers are answered, make an offering to Our Lady in Thanksgiving.

Offer Her flowers, incense, milk and honey.

Sing Her hymns. You do not have to be Catholic to sing these hymns. If you are devoted to Mother Sophia, these hymns are yours to sing. A beautiful hymn which needs no adaptation may be found here: https://www.songandpraise.org/daily-daily-sing-to-mary-hymn.htm. To hear it sung: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4oTnqZjthck

On this day of MariMaia, let us begin Lady Month by fostering True Devotion to She Who is the Mother of All the Cosmos. Blessed is She.

Blog: Priestess of Holy Wisdom & Sophian Filianism & Demotion Myths

15 Columbina/April 4

Stelladi/Wed

O, Madria Sage, Jana of Intelligence, Intuition and Wisdom, be with us.

I would like to draw your attention to the following About Page: priestessofholywisdom.wordpress.com/about

This is an excellent introduction to what the authoress calls Sophian Filianism.

I’m not sure the About Page is listed on her menu, and so we will be including this particular link in our links section.

The Janites might also refer to themselves as Sophian Deanic as the Janite Tradition, like the Kyrian Tradition before it, was created to honor Sophia as Our Mother/Daughter God.

I am in complete agreement with this well written article and I, too, have come to understand the Barbelo, ( though some Gnostics tried to claim She was either male or androgynous), as being Absolute Deity. She is understood by many scholars to be the Higher Avatar or Form of Sophia.

Both Monad and Monogenes, terms used by Gnostics to describe the Absolute, were originally feminine nouns. This is why Janites often refer to the Absolute, the Great Mother, as the Monas, the original form of Monad.

The teachings on this priestessofholywisdom website are perfectly compatible with Janite Tradition. Zoe is an acceptable Form for the Holy Daughter and the authoress does a fine job of tying in the story of Zoe-Eve with the idea of the Filianic Sacrifice. In fact, there is a connection here, with our communion rite, something which we received from the Madrians and known to our priestesses both past and present, if they could but make the connection.

It must be remembered that like Christianity, Gnosticism is more of an umbrella term for different schools of Gnostic thought which oftentimes resulted in the variations of the myths.

In Sophian Filianism, we are merely restoring Sophia to Her original Glory because only in Gnosticism is there the idea that the Divine Daughter of Wisdom could possibly commit an huge error by choosing to create by Herself and so, just as the powerful Roman Church blamed a human female, Eve, for the Fall of Creation, so Gnostic Christians blamed the Divine Female for the Fall of Creation and through their myths, raped Eve.

This is why I left Gnosticism. I had enough of the extremely misogynistic, evil teachings of Catholic (I am a former Catholic) and Gnostic Christianity where females are blamed for the plight of humanity and creation and thereby needing a male saviour. In Gnosticism, the Divine Sophia, Who is trapped here, is forced to beg, through singing many songs of repentance, for Her male savior to allow Her to re-ascend through the realms .

I have lived the results of these false teachings as have my fore-mothers before me. It results in women becoming second class citizens in their churches, taking part of the blame for Eve’s ‘fault’ and, at times, being considered spiritually inferior but saved through childbirth or obeying their husbands. This might sound farfetched, but it was the experience of females in my former church for almost two millennia until just a few short decades ago. It has yet to be completely eradicated.

Let me make clear that here, I am not speaking about women becoming priests in the Catholic Church. I am a firm believer that males should liturgically channel the Divine Masculine while females should liturgically channel the Divine Feminine.

I feel that those who have resurrected the Gnostic Churches since the finding of the Nag Hamadi texts should stop and think about what they are doing when they perpetuate an ancient MYTH which, perhaps without meaning to, demonizes, degrades, traps, rapes and humiliates the Divine Female. Even if they consider Her to be the lowest Aeon, She is still Divine and on the same level as Christ, the Logos, Her Twin. Imagine if all of this stuff was taught about the Christ Aeon!

And what is even worse, this time, it is not just an human female, the mother of all humanity on Earth, but the Divine Female, the Mother of the Cosmos, Wisdom, Herself, Who is degraded blamed, ultimately forcing the Divine Daughter of Wisdom to beg for mercy from Her male consort.

If modern Gnostics can veer away from the Gnostic belief that manifest creation is evil, why can’t they realize that the demotion of the Divine Feminine is just as erroneous. It is clear that some Gnostic Christians re-wrote some of the pre-Christian texts to suit their inherent bias.

Why don’t they restore Her to Her original place and reveal Her to be the Sacrificial Heroine that Kabbalists see in Her counterpart, the Shekinah? (www.universalkabbalah.net/Shekinah. See especially the second paragraph under Shekinah and Creation.)

In Gnostic Christianity….it is ok for a Male to create without His Female consort, but, apparently, a Female may not do the same without wreaking havoc, destruction and causing immense suffering.

We do not accept such teachings. And certainly, the Russian mystics did not and do not see Sophia that way nor do those Christians, both ancient and modern, who understood Her to be the Holy Spirit, Whom, in Gnostic texts, Jesus referred to as his MOTHER.

And so, in summary, the male theologians took our human mother and blamed her for the Fall and all the evils and sickness of creation.

They blamed her for ‘enticing her husband to sin’. And the Roman Church went so far as to say we all had to inherit this sin….that we are literally born with the stain of Original Sin on our souls which is why Jesus had to be tortured and killed so that the stain could be removed through baptism and the gates of heaven be re-opened.

So, in other words, ultimately, according to mainstream Christianity, the male savior had to come because the female Eve sinned against the male god and caused her husband to sin. So, they demoted and demonized our human mother, the mother of all the Living.

The Gnostics did the exact same thing to Our Divine Mother, Sophia,  Divine Wisdom, the Mother of all the Cosmos, Who as part of the Godhead, cannot make such an error.

And, they went so far as to have our human mother, who had the Light of the Daughter, Zoe-Sophia within Her, raped and defiled! (Though, I believe the Light of Zoe first departed from Eve)!

Let us remember that these were myths that  were  written by men; they were not historical  events. We do not have to accept parts of myths that defile and demote the female whether human or divine. This is what gives religious zealots, both past and present, the idea that it is ok to treat women as being spiritually inferior.

At the same time that the Gnostics defamed, demoted, trapped, raped and defiled the Divine Feminine, the Roman Church, took Her away completely by making Her into a male with the erroneous teaching that both the Logos and His Twin, Wisdom, incarnated forever as the male, Jesus and further  teaching that the Holy Spirit is male, thereby  leaving us with only the human mother, Mary, who must never be considered divine, because only the male can be considered divine.

(And I don’t want to hear any excuses as to how the Church really believes that God is either genderless  or that God is both male and female. The Traditional Catholic Church clearly taught that God was male and explained why.)  And this human mother, Mary, was dependent upon her son for her immaculate conception. (There is an excruciating attempt to explain this in Catholic theology where this was preordained for her through the future merits of her son.)

So, again, thanks to male theology, we have yet another female who, though this time is not blamed for the Fall, she is still dependent on a male saviour and cannot be divine. So, we can have a divine Father, but not a Divine Mother.

Thankfully, there is a school of Russian thought where Mary is considered to be the incarnation of Sophia.

I say that there is no place in the 21st century for these antiquated, misogynist in the extreme, harmful teachings. And I am not making these statements as a radical feminist. Quite the contrary, I am a traditional, conservative woman. But, I am a woman who has the Divine Spark of my Mother residing within the temple of my soul and it is for Her, for Our Very and True Mother, that I fight.

I fight for Her right to be recognized as being Divine in Her Own Right; Who is not dependent on a male consort or a male saviour in order to be part of the Godhead.

She is Supreme. She gave birth to the Male. She is God in Her Own right. She did not sin, or error, or cause the Fall. She did not get raped or create the half aborted demi-urge or half-maker. She is not trapped here against Her Divine and Powerful Will. Nor is She the Ruler of the Seven Hebdomas who are evil archonic planetary powers. This is an inversion of the truth.

Why must we accept these awful myths that were written by men, not women…..  thousands of years ago? Especially when we have the evidence that they changed some of the original texts to suit their narrative? (More on that to come in the near future.)

This is why, decades ago, I sought to somehow become a valid priestess and form an Order through which She could be honored and worshiped as God in Her Own Right, just as did the Collyridians of old. (Evidence has recently come to light that the Collyridians were more far-reaching than previously thought and may have lasted for centuries).

This is also why Janites believe that the worship of the Mother must be kept separate from Divine Masculine worship because, as many of us have experienced, She is all too quickly subsumed by the Divine Masculine. The painting of Sophia and Jehovah in the Sistine Chapel is a clear illustration of this experience. Jehovah is huge, mighty, strong while Sophia is tiny and shadowed beneath his arm.

Through the blessing of the Deanic/Filianic religion, whose roots may go back further than I initially thought, we have the tools to take Sophia, Our Divine Mother God, out of the shadow of the Divine Masculine and restore Her to Her proper place.

We can free Her from being raped, demoted, trapped, demonized, humiliated and restore for Her, the recognition of Her Glory, Her Divinity…..

Her very GODHOOD.

Primordial Pre Patriarchal Sophia and Creatrix Eurynome

28 Brighid / Feb. 19

Lunadi or Moon Day. (Monday).

Day of Madria Candra.

To our friends and devotees,

Sorry, this article may be rather clumsily constructed, as I am still so excited by this news.

It is in 2 sections. Section 1 is the most recent find by ArchMadria Candra Sophia. The connection between primordial pre-patriarchal Sophia and prehistoric Eurynome (pronounced euren AW mee) meaning “Wide-Ruling” and why this is so significant to the Déanic Order of Kore Di-Jana a.k.a. Janites.

Section 2 is background information for those unfamiliar with the Pelasgian first nation peoples of the Aegean Sea region in Europe and the Creation Myth of Eurynome which includes the Seven Planetary Powers. This is yet another patriarchal demotion of the Divine Feminine. Credited with thanks to ArchMatrona Ghrian of the Lucienne tradition

May Déa as Matrix & Creatrix, Genetrix and Soteria ever be centring us in Her,

Madrina Sophia

Section 1

Pre Patriarchal Sophia as a True Universal Goddess

Unknown Artist. Sophia is the central pivot of creation and represents the feminine aspect in all things.

Sophia is a pre-Greek goddess, and also a Christian goddess, which goes to show that She is truly a Universal Goddess. Bridgid, Herself, is both a Pagan Goddess and one of the most important Christian saints in the Catholic Church.
A Church, that we must admit, is worldwide. So She, who was once a Primary Celtic goddess, became a worldwide saint.
Therefore, Bridgid is also a True Universal Goddess because She, like Sophia, is revered in both the Pagan and Christian worlds.
In my personal opinion, perhaps this renders Bridgid and Sophia as two of the most Universal Forms of Dea on Earth. [1]

Déanic Myth of Creation

We view the Myth of Creation and the Myth of the Divine Maid/ Daughter as sacred, inspiring stories which use various sources to speak of a perennial Mystery. The scriptures are based, in part, upon the Pelasgian Mythos, the Myth of Persephone and Demeter, the Christian Mysteries and the Passion mythos of Inanna, although I think most would agree that the goddess of sex and war is not a suitable Image/Form for the Most Pure Holy Daughter. These mythos were never meant to be taken literally. Rather, they are human stories which speak of a Sacred Cosmic Drama which takes place out of time. [2]

Pre Patriarchal Sophia as Celestial Mother Genetrix of ALL & Soteria Holy Daughter

This is such a revelatory article, uncovering “the original blueprint” / pre-patriarchal Sophia similarities to Eurynome. Pre-patriarchal Sophia who is the basis of the Déanic Order of Kore Di-Jana a.k.a. Janites as Holy Daughter. She is also confirmed in a pagan context as Eurynome – Celestial Mother Genetrix of ALL creation. [3a] Including the Seven Great Janae – the Supernal Genetrixes, Guardians or Wellsprings of the Seven Streams of Life or Virtue. They are the Seven Faces/Powers/Spirits of Dea, Our Divine Mother God, in rarefied angelic form. [3b]

As ArchMadria Candra Sophia stated “I can’t begin to explain how reading this has unified the Christian Goddess in whom I strongly believe, with the very Goddess [Eurynome] whose myth underlies the foundation of Filianism. Like the floor safe built into the foundation.”

Do read the whole article, only an extract is reproduced here.

The Pagan Origins of the Gnostic Sophia

by Miguel Conner | Jul 26, 2016

QUOTE
The Primordial Sophia

The original blueprint for the Gnostic Sophia is located in one of the earliest creation stories (older even than Genesis): The Pelasgian Creation Myth.

In this narrative, a divine being named Eurynome descends from the void and fashions the cosmos from the chaos. Creation is ushered by her dance upon the primordial waters, resulting in the formation of the planets, stars and elements into actuality. She also conceives a godlike serpent named Ophion. Eurynome and Ophion engage in a second, more seductive dance that ends in copulation. She then transforms into a dove and hovers over the sea, eventually laying a massive egg. Ophion coils around the egg seven times until it is hatched and all living creatures come forth. Eurynome sets a male and female Titan to overlook each heaven.
Eurynome and Ophion rule over creation in harmony, until the serpent claims he is the sole supreme being of the universe. This causes Eurynome to wage war against Ophion and ultimately banish him into the depths of the earth. In the end, she finds herself alone atop of the cosmos, yearning for another like her to keep her company.

At first glance, the Pelasgian Creation Myth appears like another dramatic, Greek account of how reality came to be. However, a deeper look reveals a proto-Sophia in the character of Eurynome:

► Sophia is cast into the chaos from an undivided nothingness (The Secret Book of John, On the Origin of the World). The Gnostic Valentinians referred to the fundamental principles of consciousness, the primaeval Father and Mother, as Bythos and Sege (Abyss and Silence in Greek). They represented a state of ultimate, undivided existence, similar to where Eurynome originated from.

► Sophia is responsible for the conception of matter (The Valentinian Cosmology, The Secret Book of John). Like Eurynome, she moves back and forth over the primordial waters, as well as gives birth to a serpent-like monster (Sophia’s offspring was called Yaldabaoth, often associated with the Old Testament God).

► Sophia is symbolized as a dove in Gnosticism. The Acts of Thomas proclaims, “Come, she that manifests the hidden things and makes the unspeakable things plain, the holy dove.” As her aspect of Wisdom/Shekinah in the Old Testament, Sophia is referred to as a dove (Song of Solomon 1:15, Song of Solomon 5:2). The symbol would be later adopted by Christianity in the form of the Holy Spirit, although both the Shekinah and Sophia were also recognized as the Holy Spirit.

► Sophia’s offspring rebels against her, claiming to be the only Supreme Being (The Secret Book of John, The Hypostasis of the Archons). The Hypostasis of the Archons relates how Yaldabaoth “because of his power and his ignorance and is arrogance he said, with his power, ‘It is I who am God; there is none apart from me.’ When he said this, he sinned against the entirety.” In The Pelasgian Creation Myth, the serpent Ophion “vexed Eurynome by claiming to be the author of the Universe.”

► In her higher avatar of Barbelo, Sophia assigns a male and female pair of Aeons to each of the layers of the mind of God (The Secret Book of John). Eurynome does the same, albeit with Titans ruling over the planetary spheres.

► In virtually all Gnostic texts, Sophia finds herself yearning for another like her once she lingers in the manifest Unlike the open-ended story of Eurynome, Jesus Christ comes to her like a saving knight or lost friend.

It should be noted that The Pelasgian Creation Myth is also a foundation for the Book of Genesis. Eurynome is responsible for naming all the creatures of Earth, as was Adam. The serpent in both myths plays the antagonist role (however, the serpent is often associated with wisdom goddesses in Paganism, and is frequently a positive figure in Gnosticism). During the conflict between Eurynome and Ophion, she “bruised his head with her heel.” In Genesis 3:15, the seed of Eve is prophesized to bruise the head the serpent with her heel, which has been taken as the coming of Jesus Christ to redeem the world from Satan.”

Who were the Pelasgians?

A fantastic wiew of Dodona, (where Dione meaning Divine One had Her oracle, perhaps the centre of the Pelasgians.

The Histories of Herodotus is considered one of the seminal works of history in Western literature. Written from the 450s to the 420s BC in the Ionic dialect of classical Greek. The Histories were at some point divided into the nine books of modern editions.

The Cynurians and Achaeans were Pelasgians

Book 8 – URANIA

[8.73] Seven nations inhabit the Peloponnese. Two of them are aboriginal, and still continue in the regions where they dwelt at the first – to wit, the Arcadians and the Cynurians. A third, that of the Achaeans, has never left the Peloponnese, but has been dislodged from its own proper country, and inhabits a district which once belonged to others.

The Arcadians were Pelasgians

Book 2 – EUTERPE

[2.171] On this lake it is that the Egyptians represent by night his sufferings whose name I refrain from mentioning, and this representation they call their Mysteries. I know well the whole course of the proceedings in these ceremonies, but they shall not pass my lips. So too, with regard to the mysteries of Ceres, which the Greeks term “the Thesmophoria,” I know them, but I shall not mention them, except so far as may be done without impiety. The daughters of Danaus brought these rites from Egypt, and taught them to the Pelasgic women of the Peloponnese. Afterwards, when the inhabitants of the peninsula were driven from their homes by the Dorians, the rites perished. Only in Arcadia, where the natives remained and were not compelled to migrate, their observance continued. [4a]

~and~

Virgil (Aeneid, VIII, V. 62-63), writes:
“It is said that the first dwellers of our Italy were the Pelasgians” .
From the ancient authors we have learned that before the arrival of the Greeks, those territories were known as Pelasgia, the several sources inform to us moreover, than the Greeks learned from the Pelasgians not only the art of the working of the metals, of the construction of walls, but they learned, improving it, their way of writing and made their divinity their own.
Several populations, species the pelasgic one, have given to the country their name. [4b]

~and~

Aegean Sea

The name Pelasgians (Greek: Πελασγοί, Pelasgoí; singular: Πελασγός, Pelasgós) was used by some ancient Greek writers to refer to populations that were either the ancestors of the Greeks or preceded the Greeks in Greece, “a hold-all term for any ancient, primitive and presumably indigenous people in the Greek world”. In general, “Pelasgian” has come to mean more broadly all the indigenous inhabitants of the Aegean Sea region and their cultures before the advent of the Greek language.

In 1955, Robert Graves in his mythography The Greek Myths claims that the Pelasgian creation myth involves a singular creatrix goddess who dominates humans and predates other deities. The goddess gives birth to all things, fertilised not by any male opposite, but by symbolic seeds in the form of the wind, beans, or insects. [4c]

Comment by ArchMatrona Ghrian of the Lucienne tradition https://deamatronablog.wordpress.com : “In its original, matriarchal version, it was probably a beautiful story”.

Déanic Scriptural links to Eurynome

1. The Creation

1:1. Before and beyond all things is the Mistress of All Things, and when nothing was, She was. 2. And having no solid place that Her feet might rest upon, She divided the sea from the sky, and made a dance of solitary splendour upon the crested deeps.

2:1. But one there was that had not been shaped by Her, and that was not Her daughter, nor a creature of spirit. But this was the space between the fragments and the nothingness that had been before things were. It had not energy nor delight, but only weight. It had not shape, but could only coil and uncoil itself about the things that were. It was the Snake, and was not silver, but black. 2.
The Snake hated all things that had become, and hated the separation of the waters and the sky. It hated light and energy, desiring all to be darkness and nothingness.

2:15. But the Mistress of All Things saw this and descended to the earth, placing Her heel upon the head of the Snake and bruising it.

3:3. And She set Her seven Powers in the firmament, giving one to rule each colour of the earth.

The Mythos of the Divine Maid

1:1. When the first night had come upon the world, the Mistress of All Things stood alone once more, as She had in the beginning. 2. For a terrible abyss had opened to lie between the world and She, and Her creatures could not look upon Her brightness.

3. And She stood in contemplation upon the waters of the first darkness; like a great Dove upon the waters She brooded. 4. And She became absorbed within Her and communed with Her own Self; and Her light ceased to shine forth from Her, and yet Her light grew greater. 5. And She fell to Her knees. And the surface of the waters became turbulent, and the great waves curled over Her, and their white foam could not be seen in all that darkness.

6. And when the waters became calm again, the Mistress of All Things rose to Her feet. 7. For She had conceived a Daughter that was not separate from Her, but one with Her, and the child of Her Light.

Pelasgian Creation Myth – the earliest in Europe

Eurynome by Hong Eun-Young [5]
Eurynome was easily the most important Goddess of Pelasgian myth. She was the Great Goddess, Mother, Creatrix, Ruler, called the Goddess of All Things.

Eurynome was born from Chaos, and her first work was to separate the water from the sky. When she had accomplished this, she began to dance across the water. It was a beautiful, sensual dance of creation. [6]

Dove sat on the world egg artist unknown

She assumed the form of a dove, brooding on the waves and, in due process of time, laid the Universal Egg. [7]

Out tumbled all things that exist, her children: sun, moon, planets, stars, the earth with its mountains and rivers, its trees, herbs, and living creatures. [7]

Patriarchal Demotion of the Divine Feminine

Myth version 2 introduces a male spouse

Eurynome by Hrana Janto

Catching the north wind at her back and rubbing it between her hands, she warms the pneuma and spontaneously generates the
serpent Ophion, who mates with her. [6]

Eurynome’s husband Ophion “the Serpent” & Eurynome wife of Ophion [13]

Greek Pelasgian Creation Myth by jessicasroux

At her bidding, Ophion coiled seven times about this egg, until it hatched and split in two. Out tumbled all things that exist, her children: sun, moon, planets, stars, the earth with its mountains and rivers, its trees, herbs, and living creatures. [6]

Comment by ArchMatrona Ghrian of the Lucienne tradition https://deamatronablog.wordpress.com  : Furthermore, instead of sitting on the Cosmic Egg herself, [like a normal, mother bird would do], Eurynome tells Ophion, the male snake, to wrap himself around it, [as snakes do their eggs] and warm it and hatch it.

Myth version 3

The male spouse attempts to usurp.

Eurynome and Ophion made their home upon Mount Olympus, where he vexed her by claiming to be the author of the Universe.
Forthwith she bruised his head with her heel, kicked out his teeth, and banished him to the dark caves below the earth. [6]

In the soil of Arcadia the Pelasgians spring up from Ophion’s teeth, scattered under the heel of Eurynome, who kicked the serpent from their home on Mount Olympus for his boast of having created all things. [7]

Myth 4

Her daughter and son banish their parents.

Pseudo-Apollodorus, Bibliotheca 1. 503 ff (trans. Aldrich) (Greek mythographer C2nd A.D.) :
“He [Orpheus] sang of . . . How, in the beginning, Ophion and Eurynome, daughter of Okeanos (Oceanus), governed the world from
snow-clad Olympos; how they were forcibly supplanted, Ophion by Kronos (Cronus), Eurynome by Rhea; of their fall into the waters

Myth 5

Comment by ArchMatrona Ghrian of the Lucienne tradition https://deamatronablog.wordpress.com : “And still later, another goddess by the same name, Eurynome, the Oceanide, ends up as one of the many wives of, Zeus, and the mother of the Graces.

Patriarchal redactors have rewritten all three stories about Eurynome:  She is pictured as a female-failure in need of a male-savior, just like the Gnostic Sophia.  Eurynome is portrayed as a failed wife [divorced and estranged from Ophion, the snake], failed Queen of Heaven, Creatrix and Mother of the Gods [because She is not powerful enough to punish, and banish Her ungrateful and rebellious children].  It is only later, when She becomes the wife of Her grandson, the male god, i.e.,  Zeus, the Son of God, that she is redeemed and becomes the mother of the Graces.”

Myth 6 – A male Demon

Found whilst composing this article, male dominance cannot stoop any lower. Taking the Mother God and inverting Her Purity, Power and Divinity.

Debasing a Creatrix into a demon

The Demon Eurynome from the illustrated The Dictionnaire Infernal by Jacques Auguste Simon Collin de Plancy, 1863 edition, which included sixty-nine illustrations by Louis Le Breton depicting the appearances of several of the demons. [14]

Part III, Sophia, Eurynome and the Seven Janati

10 Abalon/Sept. 14

Abaldi/Thurs. Day of Madria Thame’ (Themis).

O, Madria Thame’, Jana of Justice, Order and Harmony, be with us.

~

(The Seven Rays of Divine Manifestation.)  In Deanic language, the Seven are of the Three-Fold Heaven (3 upward: (Madrias Candre, Raya and Rhave)  and of the Four-Fold Earth (4 downward: Madrias Sushuri, Thame’, Vikhe and Mati).

~

When ArchMatrona Ghrian and I first formulated the idea that Dea is One and Three and Seven, this formula expressed both the thealogy of the One Dea in Her Tri-une Form of Mother, Daughter and Great Mother and also of the One Dea in Her Septad Form of the Seven Janati.

In our religion, we are often presented with the analogy of the prism. Just as white light flows through the prism and separates into seven colored rays, so too, the Pure Light of Dea is diffracted into Seven Intelligent Living Streams (each Stream expressing itself through a certain color.) These Seven Rays of Intelligent Light take on the form of angels.

Just as the Holy Daughter takes on the Form of Soul, and yet, She remains Dea Filia (the Divine Daughter God); so the Janati take on the form of angels, but yet, They remain Dea.

Janite Thealogy is based, in part, upon the Divine Sophia, Who is known as both Mother and Daughter in Her Tri-une Form as Mother, Daughter and Holy Soul.

Sophia is pan-cultural. She is not limited to Judaic-Christianity. Many worship Her from all religious walks of life.

As Rudolph Steiner and others have noted, Sophia is the Mother of the Seven Powers. These Seven Powers were sometimes considered to be angels although Gnosticism refers to them as Archons (which we consider a patriarchal demotion of the Sophian Myth as at the time, Gnostics did not see manifest creation in a positive light). Although archon means ruler, in Gnosticism, Archons were not the good guys.

Sophia is also known as the Goddess of Heaven and the Mother of the Stars. Even in Gnosticism, She is known as the Mother of All the Living and the Highest Ruler over the visible Universe. She is said to have shaped manifest creation based upon the heavenly prototypes and She forms the seven star circles or spheres over which the planetary powers are placed. These planetary spheres, or heavens, were, for the ancients, the highest regions of the created universe.

Considered by Steiner to be the new Isis, and, indeed, She was often equated with Isis in the past, Sophia is the Pneumatic Essence from which all souls draw their origin. In Her lower or Daughter form, She is the Mediatrix between the upper and lower realms. It is She, Who is the one Who is crowned with the Seven Stars.

More and more, within and without Christianity, Sophia is swiftly returning to Her original Divine status. (1 +2) Many mainstream Christians, are beginning to recognize Her as the Holy Spirit from Whom emit the Seven Gifts/the Seven Spirits.

Proverbs mentions Her Seven Pillars.

As we see from the above, in many ways, it is from Sophia that comes the Seven.

Related image  (Eurynome is on the far left).

In the Myth of Eurynome, She created the Seven Planetary Powers, putting a Titaness and a Titan over each. From the Primordial Feminine standpoint, Theia ruled the Sun and was given the power of illumination; Phoebe ruled the Moon and was given the power of enchantment; Dione  ruled Mars and was given the power of growth; Metis was given the planet Mercury and the power of wisdom; Themis was given the planet Jupiter and the power of law; Tethys was given the planet Venus and the power of love; and Rhea was set over the planet Saturn and given the power of peace.

Image result for the seven alchemical planets

In Janite thealogy, the Janati are not the actual Powers, themselves. Rather, the Janati rule over the Planetary Spheres and They were given the Powers. These Powers represent the Seven Streams of life which contain the Primordial Essence or, perhaps we could say, the quantum information which is the base of all that is manifested into reality.

We believe that like the Holy Daughter, the Janati are Immanent, meaning, though They stem from the Pleroma, They work within and throughout manifest creation. And while Dea, on one level, is Supreme and Above the All and yet She is One with us and She hears our cries, so too, the Janati, being angelic Forms of Dea, though they represent Powers beyond our ken, can hear us and help us.

We are often asked, what is the difference between a Jana and an angel?  Angels were created by God. They are not God. And so, we may pray to them in the form of asking their help and assistance. But, we may not honor them as God. We may not worship them.

The Janati are UnCreated because They are God, They are Forms of Dea and so we may pray to Them. We may honor Them as God. We may worship Them. Especially when we consider Sophia. She is Their Mother… She gave Them birth… They are of Her. They are One with Her. They are Her Seven Spirits. Her Seven Stars.

Part II: The Holy Daughter

23 Vespera/Aug. 30

Stelladi/Wed.

Day of Madria Mati-Metis (Sophia)

O, Madria Mati, Jana of Intelligence, Intuition and Wisdom, be with us.

The Shattering of the Divine Soul of the Holy Daughter was, in our interpretation, prefigured by the tearing of Her Soul by the keres.  (Chapter IV, Mythos of the Divine Maid, verse 3),

Image result for images for Lux Madriana

Dear Sisters and Devotees,

Some of this has been discussed in the past, but some of this is new. Though this is meant for the benefit of those readers and JOP members who are new to Janite thealogy and for our sisters in priestess training, I hope that all of our readers might benefit as to how Janites differ from other forms of Deanism in our view of  the Sacrifice of the Holy Daughter. Each way to understand the Cosmic Drama is but one facet of the One Sparkling Diamond of Divine Truth.

At the very beginning of our religion, before even Lux Madriana, the original teaching about Dea was that She was more of a Triple Goddess rather than an actual Trinity of three Distinct Persons. (According to what I had been told and to the best of my understanding.) She was Mari/Jana/Dark Mother (Jana probably should be pronounced Yana) and She was truly One. Interestingly enough, at the time of Christ, there was a a very popular goddess named Mari-Anna-Ishtar.

In this original Madrian thealogy, Mari was the Transcendent Celestial Mother and Jana was Mari in Her Immanent-earthly Form. (More rightly stated: heavenly-earthly Form).

It is my understanding that there was NOT the notion of a birth or of a nativity of the Holy Daughter.  Likewise, there was no idea of the Sacrificial Death of the Daughter. This latter doctrine, to my knowledge and to the best of my understanding, was not in place at the very beginning of our religion and probably would not have been looked upon with favor.

Today, Janites, as with a majority of the rest of the community, are more Trinitarian in our approach to Dea. We do believe that the Holy Daughter emanates or proceeds from the Celestial Mother and this, in earthly terms, may be thought of as a birth (janana) or nativity. And we do accept a Sacrificial Daughter. But, we, as Janites, differ in our approach to and interpretation of the Mythos of the Sacrificial Daughter than perhaps other Traditions within our religion.

The inspiration for the Passion of the Holy Daughter, in our scriptures, is based upon the Myth of the Descent of Inanna, which was the name given the Holy Daughter in the scriptures.

While the goddess Inanna was a goddess of promiscuous sex and war; and one who did not die for altruistic reasons; it is easy to understand why her passion mythos was chosen as a metaphor for the Death of the Daughter in our scriptures. Inanna descended down through the Seven Realms (1), which caused Her great suffering and She was hung on a tree which , in our scriptures, represents the world/axis/tree. All of this has a great and deep meaning and is certainly one way to contemplate the Great Cosmic Sacrifice. One thing that I have always loved about the Mythos of the Divine Maid is how the Celestial Mother smashes through the Gates of Hell to save Her Daughter and to resurrect Her as depicted in the imagery of Persephone and Demeter.

Janites take a different approach to the Sacrificial Mythos. We believe that Dea cannot separate Herself from Herself without destroying Her Eternal One-ness, Her Eternal Essential Nature. We also believe that a Person of the Trinity cannot give up Her Spirit because the Spirit of the Trinity is One. There is only One Spirit in the Godhead. It cannot be separated or given up for any reason without destroying Her Eternal Essence.

Furthermore, we believe that the  Eternal Spirit of a Person of the Trinity cannot absolutely die without the Person ceasing to be the Eternal God. We do not believe that the spirit, any spirit, can die. I am not familiar with other religions which teach that it is possible for a spirit to die, to be completely annihilated. The Spirit is the Eternal Nature of God and the spirit is our own eternal nature. So, Janites do not believe in the actual Death of the Spirit of the Daughter or of the Daughter, per se.

In summary of the above:

  1. The Daughter cannot be separated, even for a single instant, from Her Mother or They would cease to be eternally One.
  2. The God-self of the Holy Daughter cannot be taken from Her or She would cease to be Eternally God.
  3. The Spirit of God, even of the Holy Daughter, cannot die, cannot be completely annihilated for that is not possible. The spirit cannot die.
  4. The entire Nature of God, God’s Oneness, God’s Spirit, the God-self of the Daughter is Eternal, without ever ceasing.

In the case of Jesus within Christianity, his human body died, yes, but his eternal spirit, his God-self did not die. In Christianity, he incarnated as an human, but he was still God. He was both God and man. His man-self died; his God-self did not die.

Image result for image of the shattering of the soul of goddess sophia

While the Holy Daughter took on the Form of Soul (which the keres ripped with their talons in the Mythos: Chapter IV, Mythos of the Divine Maid, verse 3), She did not have a body.

So, rather than making use of the Mythos of Inanna to represent the Cosmic story of the Sacrifice of the Holy Daughter, we apply the non-Patriarchal Mythos of the Descent of Holy Sophia, Who, it is becoming recognized by many mainstream Christians, is a part of the Godhead. She is Mother and Daughter. And there are many who recognize Holy Sophia as the Divine Feminine Trinity of Mother, Daughter and Holy Soul.

As with the Shekinah, there was an Higher Sophia who was called by Gnostics, Barbelo and there was Lower Sophia, the Daughter.

In Sophian Mythos, the Daughter, Sophia. leaves Her Mother and suffers a painful Descent down through the Realms which causes a Shattering of Her Soul. Janite refer to this Mystery as Quassare, which means, to shatter.

This Shattering of the Most Holy Soul of Sophia gave birth to our own Souls which makes it possible for us to come into manifestation. The Holy Sophia literally shares with us, Her very Soul and so we are One with Her. This is the Passion Mythos that Janites use to contemplate the Divine Mystery of the Sacrificial Daughter, which was, in our interpretation, prefigured by the tearing of Her Soul by the keres in our scriptures.

Image result for Sophia Mother, Daughter and Holy Soul Sophia, Peace Through Wisdom by Pamela Matthews.

When the Shekinah/Holy  Sophia rise, in each of Their Mythos, They become the World Soul, the Cosmic Soul. Patriarchy will say that Sophia was trapped here. That is a demotion and a belittling of what She has done for us. It is a denial of Her Divine sovereignty and in typical Patriarchal fashion, makes Her dependent upon Her consort for salvation when it is actually, She, Who is our Salvation, our Soteria.

And so this, we believe of the Holy Daughter. That She is the Holy World/Cosmic Soul and our Soul. This is how She rules and sustains all of Nature through Her Sacrificial Love. She truly remains here with us, as the World Soul, until She can gather up the very last Divine Spark within us unto Assumption into Perfect Union with Her Divine Mother. When She rises, we rise with Her. All in the Eternal Cosmic Wheel of time outside of time.

As it is said of the Holy Daughter in the teachings of our religion, where these are Cosmic and not historical events, each is always taking place, eternally. When we observe each feast day, we should observe it as if it is taking place right now. We should observe it with deep reverence and profound gratitude.

  (Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom).

And so, the Holy Daughter Eternally Descends in the Omni-Present Now. The Soul of the Holy Daughter Eternally Shatters in the Omni-Present Now. The Holy Daughter Eternally rises in the Omni-Present Now.

It is said of the Shekinah, that She is always descending and rising. Christianity has a similar teaching of the Eternal nature of the Sacrifice, Resurrection and Ascension of Jesus…that these are Eternal Events outside of time.

The graces and blessings of these events are brought into time, both in the Christian liturgies and in the Madrian/Janite Great Liturgy, through the Mystery of the Communion Rite.

It is because we live in such ultimate, intimate union with the Holy Daughter that there is nothing that we experience that She does not experience with us, down to the very last breath of our lives and through the first Light of the assumption of our souls.

Blessed be God, the Holy Daughter. Blessed is She.

Coming up, Part III, the Seven Janati.

ArchMadria Candra Sophia.

  1. There were many underground cities at that time and in that area. These cities contained many levels and some were capable of sustaining upwards of 20,000 people. Archaeologists are continuing to find many of these massive underground cities which had methods of plumbing, channeling fresh air, etc. More and more, archaeologists are discovering that what was once thought of as pure myths, had a basis in historical fact.

The Meaning of the Day of Kala from a Janite Perspective.

16 Columbina/April 4

~

Madria Erin, in her most engaging and thoughtful post on Lustration/Kala, asked the question, what is the full thealogy of the day, if the Daughter is not dead?

Our Scriptures teach that the Holy Daughter suffered a torturous Descent down through the Realms before Her Death. These scriptural verses, taken altogether, are seemingly inspired by the Mythos of Inanna, Persephone, and the Passion of the Christ. Our scriptures continue with the story of how after Her death, the Holy One went to the deepest, darkest realms in order to carry the Light of the Mother to every corner of existence. (Jesus was said to have descended into hell, after death, to free the souls waiting there. Persephone, of course, spent six months in Hades.) On the Holy Feast of Eastre, as evidenced in the Mythos of Persephone, the Daughter was rescued and resurrected by Her Mother.

And though, I cannot speak for Filianists, I would assume that Kala is spent in the remembrance of the Passion and Death of the Holy Daughter. (We must keep in mind that there were many dead and resurrecting pre-Christian gods. This timeless myth extends thousands of years B. C.)

There is an hauntingly beautiful Filianic lament in honor of Mari-Anna that is often chanted on this day. {Anna is the name of the Holy Daughter in Filianic Tradition. Though it is said to come from the name Hannah, it also stems from Inanna and Jana as in Di-Jana or Di-Anna. (Jana is correctly pronounced Yanna}.

We must also be mindful of the fact that the name, Demeter, translates to God the Mother and Persephone (per seph o nay), before Her Descent into Hades, was called Kore (Kor-eh or Kora), which means the Maid/Maiden or Daughter. It was after the Divine Kora returned to the Earth from the Underworld that She was called Persephone. (1)

I and both of my bishops, believe that the Eleusinian Mysteries, served in honor of Demeter/Persephone, were truly based upon the Divine Mother and Daughter.

These ancient rites were liturgical in nature and had a Divine Communion Rite. The Eluesinian Mysteries were based on a Mother-God and Daughter-God Who were separated, the Daughter descended into hell, and Her resurrection was celebrated, annually.  During this Rite, devotees truly believed that they were receiving the Body of Demeter,’ God the Mother’,  through the Communion Bread.

The deeply meaningful and mystical Communion Rite of the original Madrian liturgy, part of which is to be found in our scriptures, was inspired by the Myth of Persephone. Though Persephone did not die, per se; rather, She was trapped in the underworld where Her Mother shattered the gates of Hades in order to rescue Her; this Mythos may be considered symbolic of a death and resurrection. Certainly, the resurrection of all life on Earth followed the return of Persephone from the under-world.

In Sophian Tradition, there is also a Communion Rite that may be based upon Proverbs.

Just as Filianists and other Matriarchal scholars have managed to discover the pre-Patriarchal roots of many Goddess-based myths, in Janite Tradition, the Cosmic Drama of the Holy Daughter is founded upon the pre-Patriarchal Mythos of Sophia/Shekinah (see http://www.suppressedhistories.net/articles/GnosticGoddessFallenSophia.pdf).

The Divine Sophia is pan-religious, meaning, She is not confined to one religion. She is actually pre-Christian and all may worship Her. She is the Image/Form that Janites use for the Holy Daughter. Included in the Mythos of Shekinah/Sophia is the Divine Shattering.

Sources for this Myth of the Divine Shattering of Shekinah/Sophia may be found within certain traditions of Kabbalism, in Gnostic schools of thought and in ancient Syrian Gnostic Christianity.

In Kabbalism, this Descent is not considered to be the punishment it is in Gnostic Christianity; it is a voluntary act on the part of Lower (meaning immanent—so Daughter-Form) Shekinah out of Her love for the Children of Israel and this Descent through lower-vibrational density resulted in the Shattering of Her Soul.

Unlike Kabbalism, the Christian Sophian Tradition, unfortunately, blames this Shattering on a mistake that Sophia supposedly made by trying to create without Her Male Partner. We, and many modern Christians and Sophian devotees, do not accept this Patriarchal view of Lower (again, meaning immanent-so Daughter-Form) Sophia. She is said, in ancient sources, to always do the will of Her Mother (Higher Sophia) and so, She descended down through the Realms, like the Shekinah (they are One and the same Being) to be immanent with the Children of the Earth, but this torturous Descent down through the ever increasingly denser and darker dimensions eventually caused Her Soul to Shatter. This Shattering, as taught in Shekinan/Sophian Mythos, did not cause Her death, rather, it caused Her to become the World Soul or the Holy Soul of the World (of all of us and all of Nature).

In contrast to the Mythos of Persephone, the Divine Sophia is not saved by Her Mother. Rather, She, like Quan Yin, chooses to remain immanent with us. She becomes an integral Part of us, to unite as One Being with us, until the day we desire nothing but Perfect Love and so at that ending of the time of our Soul Journey, She ascends with us, assuming our souls unto the Celestial Mother in the Heavenly Realm of Bliss, the Pleroma, our True Home.

I picture the Divine Shattering of the Holy Daughter like an hologram that has been shattered into a million pieces. Each shattered piece (us) is still a reflection of the Whole and yet, the Core of the Original Wholeness is still intact because the Holy Daughter is God and God cannot disintegrate. She cannot die.

The Holy Daughter is like the Central Piece of the Original Hologram. Though the fragile, rarefied outward pieces of the Daughter’s Soul was Shattered (and Sophia is said to have had a rarefied Body—Soul), Her Essence, Her Spirit, did not, could not, shatter, disintegrate. Thus, the Original Immanent Image of the Celestial Mother, She Who is the Holy Daughter, was Shattered, and yet, remained Whole in an of Herself and we, Her Divine Sparks, each were ensouled with Her Soul. She is the Soul of our souls and the Spirit of the Divine Sparks within us. This is the Divine Mystery of the Feasts of Moura and Eastre in the Janite Tradition.

Returning to the holographic analogy: As found in Stanislav Grof’s,  the Holotropic Mind: ‘Unlike normal photographs, every portion of a piece of holographic film contains all the information of the whole. Thus if a piece of a holographic plate is broken into fragments, each piece can still be used to reconstruct the entire image.’

To reconstruct the entire image. That is why Sophia, the Holy Daughter, seeks the Sparks within us, so that She may recreate the Original Image and render us back into that Perfect Hologram in order to reunite us with the Celestial Mother, the Origin of the Image.

But, just as with the brain, where the whole is carried in the part— as the brain is damaged or sections removed, the more it is cut up, the more the memory, though it remains intact, becomes fuzzy, just so, an hologram becomes fuzzier the more it is shattered. Thus, we of the Shattered One are but imperfect, fuzzy reflections of the Divine Daughter, Who is the Immanent Image of the Celestial Mother, Who, in turn, Who comes from the Source, the Great Mother and so we must seek, through Her Grace and Her Sacraments (2) to become ever more perfect reflections of Her. And, we do so out of love of Dea, and, as our scriptures teach, out of love for Her children. We do so by striving through every thought, word and action to draw ever closer to the Holy One rather than retreating further away from Her.

Green Sophia, by Daniel Mirante, contributing artist to the Artists Envisioning the Divine project.

To summarize: In Her desire to be immanent with us, we who are the Children of the Earth/the Children of Dea, after our fall into density, the painful Descent through the denser, lower vibrational Realms proved to be too much for the delicate, rarefied Soul-Body of the Holy Daughter, one which was not protected by a material body and so, it Shattered. We became One in Soul with the Holy Daughter. We contain souls that were given to us out of Her Sacrifice; we contain within our souls Her Divine Sparks.

In Kabbalistic teaching: The Shekinah plays another very important role in the story of creation, and in particular in the Great Plan of humankind.  It is believed that in man’s fall to a denser, less perfect state of being in the physical, the Shekinah stayed with us as we separated from God or were exiled from the ‘Garden’.  Thus, the Shekinah, once again, was voluntarily removed from God/En Sof in order for us to have our experience.  She has always stayed with us, wherever we were exiled or isolated or shut out, the Shekinah was always there in exile and isolation with us. http://www.universalkabbalah.net/Shekinah.

On the day of Lustration (Kala in the Auroran and Filianic Traditions), Janites spend a day in somber remembrance of this greatest, most heart-rending, soul wrenching, sacrificial myrrh-infused, stopped moment out of time when all the Cosmos holds its breath; the  most knee-bowing, head-veiling, thunderstruck, awestruck, Shining Being witnessed, Ultimate, Primordial Love Sacrifice of the Most Pure and Holy Daughter. She literally gave Herself to us. And, She never left us. She stayed.

In this way, She lives every single moment of every single day with us. Whether we are in pain; whether we experience joy; whether we glory in love or suffer abandonment, She is literally part of us and we of Her and so, She experiences exactly as we do with all our pain, emotions and bliss.

This is the full thealogy of the day of Kala in the Janite Tradition.

Janites practice the ancient rite of lustration/purification and veil in solemn observance of Her Descent and Shattering on the day of Lustration, 28 Moura/March 19 (if not a leap year).

May the Queen of Heaven, She Who is the Divine Shattered One; She Who is the Holy Soul of the World; She Who is the Queen of Heaven, bless you and be with you. Blessed is She.

  1. The meaning behind Persephone is a little bit of a mystery. It could derive from the Greek pertho (“to destroy”) or from phone (“murder”). She may be a Greek and Roman goddess, but that doesn’t prove that her name comes from either language. In fact, the multiple spellings of her name in ancient sources suggest that the Greeks found her name difficult to pronounce, which would suggest that it was foreign to them. Some historians believe that worship of her, as well as her mother Demeter, predate the Olympian pantheon. http://bewitchingnames.blogspot.com/2012/10/persephone.html. (Though this is the most common guessed meaning of Persephone, there are those who believe it may mean She Who lightens the darkness.)

Feast of Carmentalia/Bits and Pieces I

21 Hestia/Jan. 15

Feast of Carmentalia

Sunnadi/Sunday

b060dc171aba3230aebd4c62202b8a02

O, Madria Theia, Jana of Illumination, Joy and Benevolence, be with us. May the Pure Stream of Your Virtues flow within me, in this world and in all the worlds to come.

~

Today is the Feast of Carmentalia. Carmentalia was known as ‘The Woman’s Festival” as Carmenta was known as the goddess of women. Here is a good article on it with a nice prayer:

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/religioromana/2013/01/carmentalia-the-womens-festival/. Please note that this article is using the Julian calendar. There were originally two feast days, Jan. 11 and 15.

~

We have two guest articles today. We begin with an offering for Vespers by ArchMadria Kathi. I have added the Hail, Mysteria prayer, so that I can substitute Madria Kathi’s version for our Evensong Rite. This will be posted in our Prayers and Rites drop-down menu under Evensong. Thank you, ArchMadria Kathi.

We end today’s Bits and Pieces with an historical fashion article by Sorella Shoshana. Thank you, Sorella Shoshana.

Vespers Ceremony by ArchMadria Kathi

I wrote this Janite Rite as an optional “Vespers” ceremony. Although I work at an ‘outside’ job inside my home, I sometimes find myself at the end of the day having only had a few moments for morning prayer, and so busy during the day that by 5 p.m., the day has just flown by with no opportunity for true spiritual expression. This Rite may suffice for those of us who want to wind down at the end of the day and refocus our attention. It also helps to move from one mode of thinking (our daily work) to tending our sacred Hearths and homes, with loving gratitude.

Twilight Rite

In the evening after finishing with the day’s activities, before moving into the evening, light candles and incense.

Trace the Fora upon yourself while saying:

In the Name of the Mother, and of the Daughter, and the Great Mother. Blessed is She.

Begin with:

Blessed is Our Mother God,

She Who is Mari,

She Who is Kora,

She Who is Mysteria,

Blessed is She.

or

Blessed is Our Mother God, the Holy One.

She Who is the Celestial Mother.

She Who is the Holy Daughter.

She Who is the Great Mother.

Blessed is She.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

O Celestial Mother Mari, O Holy Daughter Kora, O Great Mother of Mystery

As we move into the peaceful night

We are grateful for the works of our hands and our hearts

May we bless our loved ones, and our Sacred Hestias

as You have blessed us this day.

Gather us into the folds of Your Mighty Mantle, Madria Dea

Kindle in us Your gentle light, Beloved Kyria

Comfort us in the darkness, Great Mother

And May the Seven Janati be with us this night

Blessed be the Holy Ones.

Hail, Mysteria, Fountainhead of Grace, glory be to Thee. Blessed art Thou, O, Empress of Heaven, and blessed are the Beloved Mother and Daughter. Holy Dea, Great Mother God, bless us, Thy children, now and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

.

Optional: Scripture reading or Rosaries, as desired.

Silver Light of the Forests

Silver Light of the darkling forests, send us forth in the protection of Your Spirit that no profane thing may enter into us.

Grant us to see all things with delight that are lovely and to glory and increase in force and energy.

Fill us with wonder in the sight of the seas and of the heavens and of every place wherein You are.

Commander of the roaring wave, help us to turn from all that is low or inglorious neither with anger nor with pain, but to know that in You we stand above all such things.

Guiding Light of the faithful soul, fill the deepest caverns of our spirit with the exhilaration of Your love. Send us forth upon the world as torchbearers of Your delight and grant us strength in You and in ourselves that we may value all things rightly, regardless of the consuming weight of the profane and the frailty of all that is beautiful.

Closing

The Prayer of Eternity

Eternal is the Light of the Mother.
Eternal is the Love of the Daughter.
Eternal is the Life of the Great Mother.
Glorious is Eternity of Dea.

Let us bless the Holy One.
Blessed is She.

Let us thank the Seven Janati of Power.
Thanks be to the Seven Janati.

Trace the Fora upon yourself and say: In the Name of the Mother, and of the Daughter, and the Great Mother. Blessed is She.

A change in the calendar: As it happens, I blessed my son’s house on the day of the Full Blessing Moon. This ended up being so powerful, I am changing the day of the Blessing of the Hestia to the day/night of the Full Blessing Moon.

~

Janite Deanics observe three main prayer times of the day in honor of the Divine Feminine Trinity. Aurora (meaning Dawn) is in honor of the Holy Daughter. Janites model the Holy Daughter on the Divine Sophia/Shekinah. Noon-tide is in honor of the Celestial Mother (modeled on Higher Sophia/Shekinah) and Evensong celebrates the Great Mother (the Monas/Absolute Deity).

Each Person of the Divine Feminine Trinity has a royal Title:

Holy Daughter Kore: Queen of Heaven.

Celestial Mother Mari: High Queen of Heaven.

Great Mother Mysteria: Empress of Heaven.

As Janites, we have traditional endings to our prayers. This is a very powerful cementing of a religious foundation and it provides synchronicity and continuity for the Faith. You find this in other religions as well, especially within Catholic and Orthodox Christianity.

Perhaps even more so than other forms of Deanism, Janites (as well as the Lucienne Tradition) are very highly Trinitarian focused. This is reflected in our three main prayer times.

And so, during Aurora, in honor of the Holy Daughter, we include the full Hail, Kore prayer and we end our prayers with: Let us bless the Queen of Heaven. Blessed is She, etc.

During Noontide, in honor of the Celestial Mother, we pray the full Hail, Mari prayer and we end with, let us bless the High Queen of Heaven, etc.. (Noontide is purposefully short so that people may pray during lunch hour at work.)

During Evensong, in honor of the Great Mother, we pray the full Hail, Mysteria prayer and end with, let us bless the Empress of Heaven, Blessed is She etc.

However, when we are praying a general prayer where we are not praying specifically to a Person of the Trinity, such as after a rosary, the Rite of Sacrifice, the liturgy, etc., we wish to honor the Trinity as One and so we say: Let us bless the Holy One. Blessed be Dea. I will be making this changes in our Prayer Rites.

Honoring Nature:

Nature is a very important aspect of our Faith. Where we are moving to our camp on the lake, I have begun to take an interest in the local plants and wildlife. I am incorporating lake themes and local plants into my home decor. For example, we have wild irises growing along the shoreline and I was fortunate enough to find plates, a tea pot and other items painted with wild irises. We have an owl that comes to our yard every evening and so I found a wonderful owl clock. We have hundreds of beautiful waterlilies in the lake each year and so I found another clock with waterlilies. These are just some of the ideas I have had in incorporating the wildlife that I love outdoors, into my home to honor them. There are many other ideas that I am using, as well.

In Cordova, Alaska, my son’s fiance works in a shop called The Net Loft. http://thenetloftak.com/. There, they use only good yarns and they are all hand-dyed from plants, lichen, berries and mushrooms! She recently gifted me with some of the yarn and the colors are far, far more vibrant than those that are synthetically dyed. Their tradition is that local meaning is incorporated into the colors of the yarns and also, the patterns. Their Gansey sweater project incorporates patterns that are symbolic of the person or the area along with ‘Cordova colors’. You find this local pride symbolized in many areas of their life. It helps you to truly appreciate where you live in a more traditional village sense. Even if you live in a big city, you can find local plants, trees and the native meaning of your area.

Another nice thing to do is to find out what plants are native to your area and grow some more. I will be planting a wild flower meadow with flowers that are native to my area. I have also been researching local medicinal  and edible plants and was astonished to find that many plants that I have known all my life, that I thought were ‘weeds’ (my sister, a master gardener, says there is no such thing as ‘weeds’. I agree with her) are either edible or medicinal. (Always be careful, many plants are quite poisonous.)

It’s also nice to research your local waterways, even brooks and creeks and learn the constellations above your head!

Nature isn’t just about ‘casting spells for magick’; Nature is part of us and we are part of Nature. Nowadays, people are becoming more and more divorced from Nature, which is not healthy for either our bodies or our souls.

Many think that just because plants don’t have brains or physiology similar to humans and animals, that they are essentially non-conscious, but many are finding out, otherwise. We, ourselves, have to remember that our consciousness does not reside in our brains.

Though still controversial, remember back to when you were a child and how you experienced plants and trees.
